No FAU Debit Card?

I went to Bank of America today to open up a new account, when I was waiting for it to be opened the woman behind the desk gave me a small magazine maybe 10 pages thick with all different designs on it. You can get a pink ribbon for breast cancer, or you can get your college/university or your favorite sports teams.

I was looking through the book and got excited when I saw Florida International University figuring if there's FIU there MUST be FAU. Well I was wrong. I looked through the entire magazine and asked the woman if it was possible to get that design, she said only what was there. They had FIU, UCF, Central Michigan, even North Texas but no FAU.

Does anyone know why? Could it be, because I opened my account in Deerfield and not in Boca?

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

It would be great if mdawson could clarify.

I've run into similar problems all over the place. For instance, I stopped in that Sports Memorabillia shop in the Boca Mall with a friend and asked why they didn't have any FAU stuff. He said they've been trying but it's "very difficult" because "they are not licensing through the NCAA, only individually through the university." Difficulty in getting FAU-branding on items has been the answer I received from the memorabillia guy, a vendor in the Breezeway selling team magnets and belt buckles, from Publix (about why they don't have better shirts), why a sports bar didn't have an FAU football helmet and so on.

I wonder if it's difficult to get licensing through the NCAA.

Re: No FAU Debit Card?

It's because the University does not have a partnership with the Bank surrounding promotion/brand offering on their debit cards…

BA has ATM rights (I believe), so that may play a part in the desire not to engage with a competitor…

Would be interesting to know who has the rights on those campuses…probably the same…
