"Recently, a sculpture depicting an unclothed human family was installed within view of an elementary school west of Delray Beach. The ensuing controversy has been described as mere 'rabble rousing' by a few 'Victorian' parents who are 'prudish' about the naked human body. It is a misnomer, however, to reduce the heart of this debate to whether 'nude art' can or should be displayed in public. Rather, it is fundamentally about what responsibilities the purveyor of such art has to the community, especially where young children will be repeatedly exposed to it."

If the artist knew about the sculpture's location beforehand, he could have been more judicious about including male genitalia. Additionally, the school should have been notified that a potentially contentious sculpture was coming.

However, this sculpture has no sexual connotation whatsoever and the figures are basically caricatures. While it creates an uneasy inconvenience for parents who now have to explain this art to their children, I sincerely doubt it will leave any negative affects on their psyche.

The state of Florida needs to worry that 50% of thier kids drop out before graduating high school not the genetalia on some bronze art.  Its obviously not pornographic, they need to move on and start choosing their battles.
