FAU Softball Grabs Two on Day Two of Miken Classic
The Florida Atlantic softball team captured two games on Saturday to improve to 9-9 on the season and will play Connecticut on Sunday to round out the three-day Miken Classic tourney.
FAU's first game versus Miami (OH) moved into extra innings with the two teams tied at two, but the Owls responded with a score, and then cheered, as freshman Kirstin Austin hit a triple to right-center to score pinch runner Hailey Broyles for the game winning run.
Freshman Taylor Fawbush pitched the eight-inning game and allowed two of Miami's three runs. Fawbush walked two and struck out four. Blair Bodenmiller hit her second homerun of the season.
Game two, the evening's nightcap versus Florida A&M, saw senior Amber Barton take to the circle for the Owls. Barton took command of the game with 12 strikeouts for a 3-2 win. Barton moves to 2-2 on the season. Both Kerri Croney and Bodenmiller were 2-for-4 on the night.
FAU will play the fifth game of the day Sunday when the Owls face Connecticut, scheduled for 5 p.m.
