FAU Softball Wins Two, Moves into Championship Game
Florida Atlantic softball played host to day two of the FAU Kick-off Class Saturday and came away with two impressive victories. The first was a 5-0 victory over Minnesota and the second, a 2-0 and near no-hitter, against Ole Miss.
The victories move the Owls into the championship game scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday. Pitt and Minnesota will open Sunday play at 9 a.m., Maryland and Ole Miss will follow at 11 a.m. and FAU will face Kentucky, who is 4-0 in the tourney, at 1.
FAU’s bats came alive in game one belting nine hits. Ashlyn Parmerter and Cari Curfman had multiple hits in game one with Kirstin hitting a triple, and Cari Curfman hitting a shot over the right field wall to provide the day’s power.
Kathryn Stauffer pitched a complete game shutout. The senior retired eight batters via the strikeout and surrendered no walks. Stauffer moved to 1-1.
Game two of the night belonged to Taylor Fawbush (1-1). Fawbush threw seven innings, five hitless and the lone hit the freshman allowed was a comebacker at her ankles.
Offensively Amber Barton had a double, and Kerri Croney hit a triple. Both Ambar Jones and Blair Bodenmiller were credited with a stolen base.
