Softball Falls to FIU 7-5 in Regular Season Finale
Florida Atlantic lost its regular season finale to FIU 7-5 on Saturday night.
The Owls (27-24, 12-10 Sun Belt) got on the board early, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run single by Rose Gressley. FIU tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a two-run homerun by Ashley McClain. The Owls regained the lead in the third on a two-run double by Cari Curfman, adding another run later in the inning when Amber Barton scored a Golden Panther wild pitch.
FIU (36-17, 17-7) once again tied the game in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs to tie the game at 5. The Golden Panthers took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth on a Jesse Alfonso solo homerun. They added another run in the fifth on a Lauren Speiers sacrifice fly to take a 7-5 lead. The Owls had runners on second and third with two out in the sixth when Kerri Croney was called out on a check swing.
The Owls finish the regular season as the no. 4 seed in the conference tournament. They will face the no. 5 seeded Troy Trojans. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. eastern on Wednesday.
