FAU Swimmers Sweep Weekly Sun Belt Honors

The honors continue to pile up for the Florida Atlantic University men’s and women’s swimming teams as Csaba Pek and Eszter Bucz have been named the Sun Belt Conference’s Swimmer of the Week.  The awards were announced today by the league office.

Pek is no stranger to SBC accolades as he earned the Swimmer of the Week honor for the third consecutive week.  This is the second time that Bucz has been recognized for outstanding performances in the pool for the Owls.

Pek, a sophomore, won the 200-yard individual medley (1:55.46) and placed second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:41.02) in a dual meet against nationally ranked Louisiana State University on January 8.  He led the individual medley race from the time he entered the pool to win the event by over a second.

Bucz, a freshman, posted victories in five different events to be a catalyst for FAU splitting a pair of dual matches last week.  She won all three events she entered against Sun Belt rival Florida International University on January 9, capturing first place in the 500-yard freestyle (5:20.73) and 200-yard individual medley (2:14.38), and contributing to a triumph by the 200-yard individual medley relay team.  A day earlier, Bucz won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:20.65) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.22) in a dual meet against nationally ranked LSU.

Pek and Bucz are both student-athletes from Budapest, Hungary.

FAU travels to instate rival the University of Florida on Saturday for a dual meet in Gainesville.
