FAU Women’s Swimmer and Diver Sweeps Sun Belt Weekly Awards

Freshmen Eszter Bucz and Christinia Sterman of the Florida Atlantic University women’s swimming and diving team have been recognized by the Sun Belt Conference following the team’s final meet of the regular season on January 30.

Bucz earned the league’s “Swimmer of the Week” award while Sterman was named “Diver of the Week” – increasing the number of FAU swimmers and divers receiving honors this season to eight.

A native of Budapest , Hungary , Bucz earned Sun Belt Conference honors for the third time this year after winning all four events she entered in the Owls’ triangular meet in Daytona Beach .  The freshman showcased her versatility by capturing top honors in three different individual events: 200-yard freestyle race (1:55.67), 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.90) and 200-yard individual medley (2:09.41).  She also swam the second leg of the victorious 400-yard individual medley relay team.

Bucz has now won the last seven races she has entered this season.

Sterman, a native of Plantation , picked up her first dual meet victory with a 242.10-point score in the one-meter diving competition in the Owls’ meet against University of North Florida and Daytona State Community College .  That performance was just five points off her career best score in the event.  Sterman also was the team’s highest finisher in the three-meter diving competition, tallying 225.45 points to earn second place honors.

Other FAU women’s swimmers receiving conference recognition this season have included senior Stephanie Goodman, sophomore Jonna Nyback and freshman Maegan Butler.

The Owls are now preparing to compete in the Sun Belt Conference championships from Wednesday, February 17 through Saturday, February 20 in Nashville , Tennessee .
