FAU Women’s Tennis Drops a 6-1 Contest to UCF

Natalia Totevska picked up a three-set victory in Florida Atlantic University’s 6-1 loss to the University of Central Florida’s women’s tennis team, on Saturday.

The Owls, who played host to UCF, opened the match against the Knights with doubles. FAU’s Erika Mrazkova and Danielle Simone fell to the no. 2 UCF team of Jenny Frisell and Alexis Rodriguez 8-3 and FAU’s no. 3 team of Cassie Bergeson and Emma Rossiter fell to Kenza Belbacha and Katie Orletsky 8-3. With the doubles point secured, the no. 1 doubles match did not finish.

The squads moved into singles play where Totevska was the highlight of the day for the young Owls. Totevska defeated Elvira Serrott 6-4, 1-6, 11-9 at no. 1 singles to earn FAU’s point.

"Natalia, once again, came to the courts with a lot of heart," said Marcey Hora-Cava, FAU’s head coach. " She competed like a true athlete. Both she and Serrott had some great points but, in the end Natalia pulled out the critical points to win the match in a third-set tie breaker."

FAU senior Danielle Simone had another match the fans kept an eye on. Simone fell 6-4, 6-2 to Kenza Belbacha.

"Danielle was up 4-2 in the first but saw UCF’s Belbacha fight back to take the set 6-4 and then the second set 6-2," added Hora-Cava.

UCF closed out the remaining singles matches to take the match at 6-1.

The Owls will next play host to Troy, 1 p.m. February 19 at Patch Reef Tennis Center.
