Men's Soccer Falls to No. 1 Akron 3-0
The top-ranked Zips (7-0-1, 1-0-0) wasted little time in jumping out to a big lead, scoring two goals just over one minute apart early in the first half.
Kofi Sarkodie scored his first of two goals on the night in the 10th minute, beating FAU keeper James McCormick from five yards out on a rebound.
One minute and 14 seconds later, Perry Kitchen tallied his fourth goal of the season off a corner kick. Teammate Michael Nanchoff played the ball into the box and Kitchen finished it off with a header from six yards out to put the Zips ahead 2-0. Nanchoff picked up the assist on all three of Akron’s goals in the game.
In the second half, Sarkodie tallied his second marker of the night to put the game away at 3-0.
The Owls (2-4-1, 0-1-0) were unable to generate a lot of offense and only recorded two shots in the game. Darnell King tallied one and Rocco Pecora the other.
Akron’s defense has only relented two goals so far this season, both of them coming in their last game, a 2-2 draw against No. 21 Ohio State on Wednesday.
McCormick (1-2-1) got the start in net for FAU and tallied four saves.
