The Florida Atlantic University men’s tennis team begins the 2010 portion of its season with a pair of matches this weekend.  The team will participate in the Illinois-Florida Invitational in Fort Myers on Friday, January 15, before hosting Florida A&M University in a dual match on Saturday, January 16 at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton .

FAU enjoyed an 18-8 season in the spring 2009 season, and advanced to the championship match of the Sun Belt Conference tournament.  The team defeated Florida A&M last year 5-0.

The Owls are led by junior Marc Abdelnour, who finished last season nationally ranked with a 26-6 record in singles matches and contributed to 16 doubles match victories.  Abdelnour had a 1-1 record at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Southeast Regional during the fall 2009 season.

Other top returning players include senior Lawrence Harradine, who had a 25-win season last year, including 17 victories in the number three singles position; and senior Daniel Vardag, who combined for 32 victories in singles and doubles action last spring.
