Swimming: FAU Concludes Action at Georgia tech Invitational

The Florida Atlantic University men’s swim team recorded 16 top five finishes while freshman Esztar Bucz continues to impressive with two runner-up performances led the Owls effort on Saturday afternoon in the Georgia Tech Invitational.

The meet featured dual matches with the host Yellow Jackets, the University of Alabama, Georgia Southern University and Florida Gulf Coast University.  FAU’s men swim team narrowly fell to Georgia Tech while the women lost by six points to Georgia Southern.

Individually, the men’s squad was led by Alex Rodriguez with fourth place finishes in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke.  He swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.50.  Ricky Duran recorded two top five honors, highlighted by a third place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle.  The sophomore from Orlando, Fla. also grabbed fourth place in the 500-yard freestyle event.  Mikolaj Czarnecki finished second in the 100-yard butterfly in 51.45 and was a member of the 400-yard freestyle relay medley team that finished second to round out some of the top performances.

On the women’s side, freshman Esztar Bucz had the top finishers for the team capturing runner-up honors in the 200-yard individual medley and 200-yard breaststroke.  Bucz had won two events in Friday’s dual meet at Florida State to cap off a productive opening weekend.  Jonna Nyback had a seventh place showing in the tightly competitive 100-yard freestyle event with six of the seven finishers all within one second.

Friday the Owls competed at Florida State with the teams capturing eight event wins in the dual match against the in-state rival.

FAU will return to the poll on Friday, Oct. 16 against arch-rival Florida International University in Miami.  The Owls will be hosting an alumni meet during homecoming on October 31.
