Volleyball: Owls Swept By Jacksonville

Georgia Robinson had 10 kills, but the Florida Atlantic University volleyball team lost to Jacksonville (24-26, 22-25, 15-25), Friday evening in the Hilton Garden Inn Tournament in Tampa.

FAU (6-6), lost to Jacksonville (5-6) for the second time in a week. The two teams played at last weekend’s UCF Classic.Robinson led the Owls with 10 kills while Christina Wallinger added eight kills. Cintia Nightingale led the defense with 11 digs.

In the first set, JU jumped out to an early 7-3 lead, but the Owls would rally to tie the contest on a service error by the Dolphins. There were seven more ties in the set. JU would take a 1-0 lead in the contest after a kill by Lehman and an attack error by Anne Vaughan.

In the second frame, the Dolphins took a 13-7 lead with a kill by Yeager. The Owls would cut the deficit to two points on eight occasions (the last coming at 24-22) but a kill by Kane gave the Dolphins a 2-0 advantage heading into the break.

In the third set, JU jumped out to a 9-3 lead on a kill by Loeppky and the Owls were unable to catch up, eventually falling 25-15.

FAU resumes action in the Hilton Garden Inn Classic on Saturday when they play host USF and New Mexico at 1:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. respectively. Live stats will be available at www.fausports.com.
