Women's Soccer: Denver Blanks FAU 3-0

University of Denver’s Kari Storslett scored twice in the second half as the visiting Pioneers picked up a 3-0 victory in Sun Belt Conference action on Sunday afternoon at the FAU Soccer Stadium.

The Pioneers scored all three goals in the second half after an evenly-played first half.

Storslett put Denver on the board just one minute into the second half after a pass from Megan Flannery set her up in the middle of the attacking box.  Storslett would add another goal eight minutes later on a one-timer from 15 yards out.  The goal was set up by a cross from Mariah Johnston and went past an outstretched Owls goalkeeper after being misdirected.

The Pioneers added another goal in the 81st minute as Katy Van Lieshout found the back of the net on a second-chance effort.  Her initial shot was blocked by FAU’s goalkeeper Ashley Lantes.  However, the ball slipped through her hands and Van Lieshout finished to the open net.

Denver , the defending Sun Belt Conference regular-season and tournament champions, held a 19-7 margin in shots that included 12 shots after intermission.  The Pioneers recorded five corner kicks compared to the Owls’ three.

Meghan Brown led FAU with three shots on the afternoon.  The Owls had a great chance to tie the match after being awarded a corner kick from the right side.  Tamara Kesser’s serve skipped through the Pioneers’ goalkeeper allowing Janielle Blake a wide-open net.  Her shot however was blocked.

FAU falls to 2-9-2 on the season and looks for its first SBC victory on Friday, Oct. 9 when it host the University of Louisiana-Monroe , starting at 7 p.m.  Denver improves to 8-4-1 on the fall campaign and 3-1 in conference action.
