Women's Hoops: Georgia Southern Knocks Off FAU 60-43
The Florida Atlantic women’s basketball team fell to Georgia Southern 60-43 on Wednesday night from Hanner Fieldhouse.
The Owls (6-6) were held to their second lowest scoring output of the season and shot only 32.1% from the field. FAU was also held without a three-point field goal (0-for-12) for the first time this season.
The Lady Eagles (7-5) were paced by their backcourt as Carolyn Whitney and Jamie Navarro scored 16 and 12 points, respectively and made 9-of-11 combined shots from the field.
Georgia Southern started the game off on a 7-0 run as FAU missed its first 11 shots from the field. However, the Owls stormed back and went on a 20-12 run over the final 12 minutes to take a 20-19 lead into halftime.
The second half is where the game slipped away from FAU as Georgia Southern went on a 20-4 run in the first 10 minutes to build a 39-24 lead. Both teams traded baskets the rest of the way as the Eagles cruised to the victory.
The Owls will be back on the court this Saturday as they return to conference play with a home game against South Alabama. FAU will have the opportunity to start 3-0 in Sun Belt play for the first time in school history. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. from FAU Arena.
