Craig Angelos interviewing for AD job at Mississippi State

He interviewed and MSU "is known to have interviewed one other candidate, Central Arkansas' Brad Teague."

Marcus Nelson also reported it
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/content/sports/epaper/2008/02/08/a8c_fauangelos_0208.html

"In 2005, Angelos was a finalist for the athletic director position at BYU, his alma mater, and two years ago he interviewed for the position at Iowa.

Angelos was not offered either job.

While Angelos would neither confirm nor deny he has applied at Mississippi State, he did say he thought the position was attractive.

"It's a job in the SEC and that's the best conference in the country in my opinion," Angelos said."

Not sure how a new AD might approach things… but look at what FIU's AD did when he came in.

Personally, I hope he gets it. This will be the third time he's attempted to fly the coop. It's obvious he's not happy here. We want true commitment for this university. Bring someone in with fresh new ideas and perspective. The future belongs to FAU, let's bring in someone that realizes that!

strongly agree…and ironically was Hoping this would happen…let's face it Angelos is a class act…he has impecable ethics and business morals…BUT:

leaders are seasonal…yo need them when the timing is right so that they can steer the "Big Ship" for a while and take it to the next port of call…

His time has come…

we need someone that can come in, as you say, with fresh ideas…AND:

clean up some of this "fat" we have and bring in those under them that have a bigger vision to take this prgram to the next level of development…

Particulalry fundraising…

IMO…

What kind of message does it send when your leader is always looking to move on?

Re: Craig Angelos interviewing for AD job at Mississippi State

You can't criticize him for looking for a better job. If you are offered a better job in any industry and you're willing to move, why not take the opportunity? Any of us would do it.

Besides, as others on here have said, it might be time for new leadership. Having someone come in with a new voice and new ideas can help take things to the next level.

Angelos has never said this was his dream job and he's not from here, so if something better comes along, more power to him. He's done a solid job, but he's also been pretty fortunate. Schnelly was already building something pretty special when he arrived, Cooney has stayed on in baseball and has continued to do a great job despite well below average facilities, Doherty kind of fell into our laps and then so did Rex. Although, I give Angelos a lot of credit for canning Green and eating the money he was owed. We'd be in such a mess bball-wise if they had him coach out his contract.

Re: Craig Angelos interviewing for AD job at Mississippi State

Some small insight:

Angelos and I know each other, on what I would consider, more of a "friend" level than a business level. We have become close over the years. (and I'm not trying to defend him when I say this…)

He DID NOT officially interview for the BYU job. If I remember correctly from when I talked to him about it, he said he was always an option for that position, but that doesn't mean he would have taken it or even interviewed for it.

He has been committed to FAU since July of 2003. After all, out of the thousands of employees FAU has, how many can you name that has been committed to FAU for as many years, that FAU has been committed to BACK? Probably 10 percent…at most 20 percent.

Re: Craig Angelos interviewing for AD job at Mississippi State

Im just concerned on the timing of this with the school trying to get cash flow rolling.

How will this affect donor confidence? Will they continue to move forward? We have a good amount of momentum, and I HATE to see it pissed away as the focus MIGHT shift to this issue.

I dont blame him for wanting to move up, Everyone wants that in thier own life.

:'(

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

I don't think Angelos staying or going would have too great an effect on the fundraising for the stadium.  To me, he's behind Coach and Brogan in the order of importance to those looking to make a donation.  People are going to give based on the Coach's vision for the team an Brogan's vision for the university.  Those are the two major selling points.  Don't get me wrong, Angelos plays a role, but he's not the one closing the deals.

i think going would have a potentiall beneficial effect…someone new and storied would bolster funds…

leaving will have no effect - as you mentioned…

Re: Craig Angelos interviewing for AD job at Mississippi State

The big issue for athletics is where does this leave the football stadium if he leaves?? Will a new AD be committed to getting a stadium in place or will it be delayed yet again?? Those are my concerns first and foremost.

The flip of the coin is that you hope somebody comes in with the desire and energy to get things moving at rapid clip.

This could be either really good or really bad.
