$3 million Fantasy 5 Lotto ticket sold at Boca Raton Publix

The weekend won't be a complete washout for at least one person who bought a lottery ticket in Boca Raton, whose numbers came up in Saturday night's drawing. That lottery player is a $3 million winner.

The numbers were 5-7-10-24-28-43, and it's the first winner in Boca Raton in at least three years, according to lottery records. The winning ticket was sold at Publix, 4141 N. Federal Highway. It was a quick pick.

Story

For anyone wondering which Publix that is, I believe it's the one on the corner of Spanish River and Federal.

Unfortunately, it's not me lol. So any of you guys buy any lotto tickets from that Publix over the weekend? Maybe someone will donate a bunch of money to FAU

I know this is probably a joke but it's interesting to note:

I'm pretty sure that if you take the upfront lump sum the taxes whittle the winnings down to like 37.5% of the original number, in this case you'd get $1,125,000.

After this person goes on the inevitable shopping spree, there won't be much left  8)

It's quite sad that $3 million really do much for you anymore these days. Not that I'd complain with winning $3 million, just saying 3 mill isn't as much as it used to be

And when you consider how many people take the lump sum, and how little of the overall winnings you get with the lump sum, it's no surprise that the overwhelming majority of Lotto winners are back to being broke again in three years… sometimes after the first year. Makes sense: even with 1.25M, if you go out and buy a $100,000 car and a $500,000 house… right there you've blown half your money. You might even do that in the first week.

One guy won $100M and sat down with financial advisers to turn it into $500M (or more). THAT guy probably still has money leftover… provided he didn't get totally screwed over by his financial advisers. I've never dealt with them (only transcribed their conversations with clients) so I'm not sure if they're unscrupulous characters or not.

It's very easy to waste money when you don't "earn" it (not trying to be disrespectful).  Since I did not do any shopping in Boca last weekend, I'll only be able to dream about spending it.  After a sizable donation to FAU, mainly spent to name the stadium "The Owl's Nest"  ;D, I'd probably pay off my little house and truck, fix my boat, and bank the rest of it.  I'd keep my job because I like it, and probably continue to live the simple life that I like.  It would be nice knowing that I could go anywhere I like at any time though with that money sitting on standby.

Oh, and I'd probably buy a couple of the red seats at stadium to help fill them up.

by the time you are done, if you take the lump sum figure you're left with 1.5 mill you don't have enough money for stadium naming rights (figure a mill if not more), plus pay off your truck, fix your boat pay off your house, buy seats and have money left to bank.

I love FAU as much as the rest of you. I would donate some money to the school but no way I give them a mill. I'd buy a lifetime membership to the owls club, i'd upgrade my football and basketball season tickets and then i'd probably use the rest for myself and my family. I also would keep my job because I like what I do

Doesn't look like he's going to donate anything towards FAU:

The Florida Lottery announces that John Mitton, 69, of Ocala, claimed the $3 million FLORIDA LOTTO™ jackpot from the drawing held on June 23. He chose to receive his winnings in a one-time, lump-sum payment of $2,171,801.17.

Publix, located at 4141 North Federal Highway in Boca Raton, received a bonus commission of $15,000 for selling the winning FLORIDA LOTTO ticket. This ticket marks the 84th jackpot-winning FLORIDA LOTTO ticket sold in Palm Beach County since 1988.

Interesting… I read they took out more for taxes than that. Pretty cool.

$2,171,801.17 is before taxes are withheld.

So what happened to that $828,198.83?
