Re: FSU trustee: Bowden must go after season

This is getting ugly, and it's not going to end well.  Bobby Bowden deserves to go out a hero, and he should.  But alas, he has brought a lot of this on himself.

Re: FSU trustee: Bowden must go after season

I'm as big an NCAA sports fan as most anyone (season FB tickets to three teams, season hockey tickets), but I think the trustees at FSU have bigger problems than the football coach. How about funding, for example? If I still were in Florida, I would ask the trustees to get their minds back on the actual puspose of the university.

I agree totally.  Bowden is the face of FSU, and he had a very successful career.  It would be nice for him to finish on top and go out as a legend, but I think that time has passed.  He has become too distant from the team, and even the game itself.  I was at the FSU USF game a couple weeks ago and it was embarrassing to watch FSU get manhandled.  Great game by the bulls, but pitiful for FSU.  Look at the video from his post game conference, he is sitting there laughing about getting destroyed, like he doesn't even care.  It was hillarious the first 100 time I watched it, but after that I realized it's really pretty sad.  I think this will be his last year, but the damage to the program and his reputation is irreversible.

Re: FSU trustee: Bowden must go after season

I dont know how I feel about this situation exactly but I do know this….

In Happy Valley in about 2005 they were calling for Joe Paterno's head saying the same things they say about Bobby Bowden.  Since that 2005 season Penn State has had 2 one loss seasons (same as UF if anybody is counting) and are looking pretty good again this year.

I think you let a legend of that magnitude decide when he wants to leave.  Guy had Florida State finish in the top 5 for 14 straight seasons…you give me a coach at FAU to do that for 3 and he can as long as he likes.

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

Re: FSU trustee: Bowden must go after season

Yeah, but there's a difference.  The situation at FSU is apparently very toxic; assistant coaches are at each other's throats, and Bowden won't do anything about it.  He begged Andrews to come back for one more season, so you have a DC who doesn't really want to be there (and it shows).  Amato is useless as both a LB coach and recruiter, and Jimbo and most of the fans hate him.  But they are Bowden's buddies, so they stay.  The president won't do anything about Bowden, because he's a buddy and a former player of Bowden's.  And the AD won't do anything because the president is holding his strings.  This is a train flying off the tracks as we speak.

I posed the question on Warchant and it got deleted (typical of Warchant) – What is the virtue of letting him stay as long as he wants if he leaves the program in the same or worse shape than when he got there?  They were 3-8 the year before he came; this year, I think 5-7 or 4-8 are possible, and 3-9 isn't out of the question.  They don't have a sure win left on the schedule.  And who knows how bad it gets because recruiting is starting to suffer.  Stay as long as he wants?  He's not doing the job as it is, and everyone knows it.  Oh, and he makes $2.5M to do nothing, too.

They may have had some losing seasons at Penn State, but I don't think they had total dysfunction.
