Update on Alfred Morris

I don't know if this is the right forum, but has anyone heard on how Alfred Morris is doing at Redskins camp?

Re: Alfred Morris

You could've put it in football too, perhaps we'll start a category for Owls in Pro Sports, but this is fine.

I've read some good things, Reporters definitely using his name in the same sentence as Davis and the other late round gems that Shanny has built up to be great backs in the nfl. They're just getting into contact now which is where Alfred shines. He's playing a little rb and fb, journos say he has great hands and is hard to bring down.

Re: Alfred Morris

In this weeks USA Today Sports Weekly, when speaking on the running back competition, Coach Shanahan mentions Alfred in the mix citing Terrell Davis!

And the same paper has Lestar Jean as replacing Andre Johnson with the 1's due to Johnson's groin injury! He also ran with the 1's at the OTA's and minicamp! NICE!

Re: Alfred Morris

There was an article about him out the other day, but I could not link to it for some reason.  He talked about lowering his shoulder and making a name for himself as someone you will pay for when tackling…

Good stuff.

Re: Update on Alfred Morris

Is Morris next in line?

The team’s sixth-round pick in April’s NFL draft, Morris could emerging as the next low draft selection to attain stardom for head coach Mike Shanahan.

While the logjam at tailback includes veteran Tim Hightower and second-year backs Evan Royster and Roy Helu, Morris’ play throughout preseason workouts and the first week of training camp have not gone unnoticed. For instance:

“Morris, who played at Florida Atlantic, stood out at the Redskins’ OTAs. He impressed with his versatility at tailback and fullback, and also with his ability to catch the ball. Considering Mike Shanahan’s history of success with running backs drafted late, we expect Morris to make a significant contribution his rookie season,” said Sporting News Insider Russ Lande.

Re: Update on Alfred Morris

And this one from Bleacher Report:

Running back Alfred Morris

From Campbell's Friday report:

Sixth-round rookie Alfred Morris didn't redirect his path from a play-action fake in time to stop blitzing S Reed Doughty on one play. Sound pass blocking would really help Morris' chances to make the team because Mike Shanahan already is confident in the other three backs' running ability.

OK, so not the most glowing review, but it's based solely on one play.

And from Tandler's Saturday report:
Alfred Morris hit the hole hard on an inside zone play and the popped into the secondary. I'm not sure they can find a way to keep him but he has impressed.

OK, a much better review, again based solely on one play, from a day later.

Let's use Keim as the tiebreaker:

As a runner, Morris continues to intrigue. It's impossible to get a good gauge on the running backs because you need to see if they're breaking tackles, how they elude defenders, etc. Can't see that until they play. But I continue to like the way Morris runs. Doesn't waste movement with his feet on his cuts. That's important.

There's a broader take, and one that I align with. Problem is, Morris can't make the team unless someone gets hurt or Darrel Young can't get himself together.

Mike Jones also liked Morris in his Tuesday report:

Rookie running back Alfred Morris did a good job of displaying his running style today. He ran hard and with purpose. No dancing around– one cut, and up the field.

Peter King ?@SI_PeterKing

Redskin thoughts 1: Mike+Kyle call more designed runs than I'd thought for RG3…Florida Atl rkie Alfred Morris solid darkhorse for RB job.

Re: Update on Alfred Morris

If he doesn't make the final roster, pretty sure they could put him on the practice squad. The NFC East is no joke when it comes to hitting on defense.
