3 Bowl Games for SBC??

3 Bowl Games for SBC??

http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/bowls/predictions

Ark State
ULL
Troy

If this does come true that SBC will get 3 bids I like our chances assuming we win outright and Troy gets the NO Bowl if we finish # 2 in conference according to their projections we'd get a bowl bid

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

If Troy goes to the NO bowl, and we win out, its really possible that we could go to a bowl. I've been keeping an eye on it for awhile, with the glimmer of hope that we turned out season around, and I think our best bet is the St. Pete bowl, as long as conference USA doesn't have enough bowl eligible teams.

Re: 3 Bowl Games for SBC??

The crazy thing is there is a distinct possibility that ULL, Troy, and FAU will all be 7-5, 5-2 at the end of the season…each with head-to-head victories over one but not the other.  This occurs if:

  1. We win out
  2. ULL loses to MTSU (and FAU) and beats Troy
  3. Troy loses to LSU

Question becomes….what do they do in that situation?? Flip a coin?

The other situation is that we tie for the Sun Belt but clearly lose out on the New Orleans Bowl.

  1. We win out
  2. Troy beats ULL but loses to Ark St
  3. ULL loses to Troy and FAU

In that we tie Troy and ULL for Sun Belt championship, lose to Troy on head-to-head, beat ULL on head-to-head and overall record.

And of course there is the crazy path to the New Orleans Bowl

  1. We win out, finishes 7-5, 5-2
  2. Troy goes on a losing streak, loses to LSU, ULL, and ASU…finishes 6-6, 4-3
  3. ULL loses to FAU and MTSU, finishes 6-6, 5-2

That would be a beautiful thing, just don't count on it

Wow, Sun Belt could end up with 5 bowl-eligible teams.

Troy
ULL
FAU
ASU
FIU

Granted they all would be BARELY bowl-eligible (if they all were eligible), but still would be a huge step as a conference.  I will be hoping for 2 bowls

Re: 3 Bowl Games for SBC??

I can see Troy losing to LSU, Ark State and ULL. Good sunbelt teams but I have trouble with ULL losing to MTSU. I guess it's possible, I mean we did it lol. MTSU is just not a good team and ULL is. Obviously if we don't win our games this all becomes a moot point. Just to even be in this position where we still have a shot at a conference title is amazing.

Good for FIU too. They unlike UNT have showed improvement and that would be a BIG step for them from going from 1 win to going to 6. I hope FIU fans show up and support their team. Should be an interesting season next year with a MUCH improved FIU and FAU when we face each other in the shula bowl. Who knows, it may even determine the conference champion

The Shula Bowl is immensely important to both teams…FIU still has a chance at the title, and just like us they need strategic losses by ULL, Troy, and FAU.  Their win over ASU was huge for them.

Re: 3 Bowl Games for SBC??

I really want to know what the tiebreak is for a situation where all 3 have the exact same records… I seriously hope its not points scored based because that would be really bad for us.  In 2005 there was a 3 way tie on conference records but ULM was 5-7 overall so they got knocked out and 6-6 ASU got in over 6-6 ULL on head-to-head.  It would definitely not be that easy this time around.

Bowl or not, It would be amazing if we can claim a share of the Sun Belt Title…imagine the marketing, and what they can tell recruits..

"Back to Back Sun Belt Champions" has a nice ring to it, even if it is a little stretch.

According to Ted Hutton:

here's the belt tiebreaker procedure:

1. Composite records of each team in competition vs. the other teams involved in the three-way tie.

2. Records of each team vs. the first-place team, or their composite records against any teams tying for first place.

3. Records of each team vs. the second-place team, or their composite records against any teams tying for second place.

4. This process continues with records vs. the third-place team, fourth-place team, etc., as necessary, until the tie is broken and seeding is complete.

5. If a tie still exists, the Conference office shall conduct a coin toss.

i don't see any good way for FAU to win it.

best hopes are to win out, go 7-5 and hope to get in one of the bowls the belt now has tie-ins with.
