Around the Belt: Nov. 8th

Here are the Belt games for today:

Louisiana-Monroe (2-3) at Middle Tennessee (1-3) - 3:30pm ET
This game has no implications on how the conference title will be decided and will feature to struggling team.
The Blue Raiders will again rely on their defense to keep them in this game.

The Warhawks is a team finding new life, just a little too late and should be able to take care of the Blue Raiders and move to .500 mark in conference play.
Prediction: Louisiana-Monroe

Western Kentucky at Troy (4-1) - 3:30pm ET Game on ESPN Game Plan & ESPN360.com
While this is not a conference game, the Hilltoppers find themselves facing a team looking to bounce back after the Trojans deflating lost to the Warhawks last week.  Talk about wrong place, wrong time for the Hilltoppers.  They will find themselves hopping back home with a not so pleasant afternoon in Troy.
Prediction: Troy

UTEP at Louisiana-Lafayette (4-0) - 7:00pm ET Game on ESPN Game Plan & ESPN360.com
The Conference leaders play a pretty good 'Tep team and this should turn out to be a pretty good game.
Right now the Cajuns are hitting on all cylinders and with Desormeaux & Fenroy providing the horsepower on offense, they shoud keep their perfect home record intact.
Prediction: Louisiana-Lafayette

Arkansas State (2-1) at FIU (2-2) - 7:00pm ET
This is the only game in conference play that does have an impact on how the title might take shape, at least if the Red Wolves win, if not, then it more then probably ends the red Wolves chances.

Florida International on the other hand looks to right the ship.  They started out hot with two straight conference wins and have played themselves out of contention with two straight losses.  Both losses however have come at the hands of the Cajuns of Louisiana & the Trojans of Troy, the two toughest teams in conference.

The Red Wolves usually don't play well on the road, but will have to find a way to do so if they want to continue their title quest.

This will be a tight game and will favor the home team.
Prediction: Florida International

FIU win helps us……you don't have to root for them, but be happy if they win.

Re: Around the Belt: Nov. 8th

So if FIU wins that means only Troy and ULL have less than 2 losses in conference. So we need Troy to lose 2 more (since they beat us) and we need to win outright to even have a glimmer of hope

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

FIU comes back to win 22-21 over Ark. State.  Now every team has 2 or more SBC losses, except ULL and Troy.

Our game next week against ULL is pivotal. I hope the guys are ready to play even better football than they did today.

The good news is that we didn't commit a staggering amount of stupid penalties today. That's one way we know we're progressing. Or should I say, returning to 2007 form.

While I still have a gut feeling that the SBC title will go (completely) to someone else (ULL, likely), I'm hopeful that we become bowl eligible. Getting to 7-5 I think is our only chance. I don't see us getting a bid at 6-6.

Even if we don't get a bowl invite. I'll gladly take 2 seasons in a row at 7-5 ESPECIALLY after the way we started out this season.

Ending the season on a 6 game win streak would definetily somewhat salvage the season, and I'd be really happy with that. Dissapointed overall, but happy that we were able to turn it around and never give up throughout the season.

Re: Around the Belt: Nov. 8th

Hell, Id be happy if there is a 3 way tie between ULL, Troy, and FAU for the Sun Belt Championship….even if we dont go to NO we would still be able to claim back to back conference championships.

So this may have been discussed, but is the tiebreaker actually the overall record if we have a situation in which ULL, Troy, and FAU are 5-2 in conference, Troy beat us loses to ULL, FAU beats ULL loses to Troy, ULL beats Troy loses to us….because if that is true then it is reeeally helpful that UTEP won yesterday and Troy is playing LSU.

Problem with the ULL-Troy game is that it could help us either way, and it depends on the ASU-Troy game and the MTSU-ULL game, both of which we would appreciate the underdog winning in.  If ASU and MTSU win those games it would be very helpful indeed and would setup the only situation we go to New Orleans…a tie with ULL in which we have the head-to-head tiebreak.

As much as the Sun Belt is bemoaned, it sure is interesting!
