Football: Belt in Review

Here is a Review of the remaining games around the conference:

Trojans of Troy: Louisiana-Lafayette, Arkansas State (both games at home)

Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette: at Troy, Middle Tennessee

Owl's of Florida Atlantic: at Arkansas State, FIU (at Dolphin Stadium)

Golden Panthers of Florida International: Louisiana-Monroe, at FAU, Western Kentucky

Red Wolves of Arkansas State: FAU, at North Texas, at Troy

Re: Football: Belt in Review

Teams that can ill afford to lose any more conference games: FAU, ASU & FIU

Troy sitting pretty with two tough conference to be played on their turf (Troy is tough at home)

The Cajun's on real challenge left are the Trojans

FIU only has one tough game left & that will be the Shula Bowl show down

Both ASU & FAU have tough remaining games - one lost and it's becomes a very disappointing season for either teams.

Re: Football: Belt in Review

This would be a VERY good scenario to happen:

Both FAU & FIU can win their next games so that the Shula Bowl means something this time around.
Which could means it would be the best attended Shula Bowl since it's inception & that would be a cool thing for both programs, as we continue to grow our programs.  This are the type of thing both program need.

FAU must get past the Red Wolves & FIU must best the Warhawks.

I know people that are getting excited about the FIU game because it could be the difference between a bowl and going home.

Florida Atlantic University Owls
2007 Sun Belt Football Champions 2007 New Orleans Bowl Champions 2008 Motor City Bowl Champions 2011 Sun Belt Basketball Champions No Bowls without Owls

First thing first, we need to worry about a good defensive team in Arkansas St before we worry about the Shula Bowl.

It would set-up a great match-up if both programs have only two losses when the Shula Bowl rolls around.  And isn't what it's all about really, winning BIG game when it counts.

Plus, it help generate some excitement & hopefully more interest in a game that has had very little of any of anything.

I want to see how bad our players want it, with the hole they dug themselves in, I want to see how hard they are willing to fight for anther chance to play in a bowl game.  They had a sample of what it taste like, let's see how big the players appetite are.

FIU will, yet once again, not show up. They don't care. I really hope I'm wrong, but every year I go to the "Shula Bowl", and every year it's the same…We show up, they never do. I would love to be proven wrong, especially when I'll be sitting across the field, smiling as we crush them again.

-Go Owls.

Re: Football: Belt in Review

I agree that Arkansas State is the No. 1 priority this week. If that is taken care of, the FIU game should be pretty interesting. But, as best I recall, it would not be the first Shula Bowl to have some post-season meaning for the Owls. In the final season of Div. 1-AA, the Owls needed a Shula Bowl win to get an invitation to the 1-AA playoffs. I think that is the year that the Owls fell behind FIU early, then roared back for a convincing win. They got the post-season invitation and, I think, beat Bethune-Cookman and Northern Arizona on the Road before losing at home to Colgate in the semi-finals.

That game did have BIG implications for FAU & FIU had every reason want to be spoilers, but this time around it would mark the first time BOTH teams have something to play for - what could be a possible Bowl game selection.  And it only the winner will have a shot.

All that won't mean nothing unless we take care of the Red Wolves come saturday.
