MTSU's leading receiver suspended for '09 Season
MURFREESBORO — Middle Tennessee State’s leading receiver from a year ago was suspended for the 2009 season Tuesday after pleading guilty to two counts of domestic assault, the university announced.

Eldred King, 21, has been arrested three times since March 1 and twice pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic assault.
He was sentenced Thursday to 14 days in jail, a year of probation and eight weeks in an anger management program. He was also ordered to pay the medical and dental expenses of the unidentified female victim in both domestic assaults, which occurred on March 1 and May 1.
“Eldred made a choice that let his teammates, coaches, and university down,” MTSU head coach Rick Stockstill said in a statement. “This program has a set of core values that we must abide by on a daily basis. Discipline is not always dismissal from the team, it is trying to educate and correct behavior.
“Eldred has been excellent in the classroom and on the field and hopefully will learn from his mistakes. I have set guidelines for him to follow and if he adheres to them he will be able to play his senior season.”
In the March 1 incident, which occurred at 1654 Kittrell Halls Hill Road, “Mr. King got angry and busted (the victim’s) lip and left bruises on her forehead,” according to Rutherford County general sessions court documents.
After the May 1 incident, which occurred at 1345 Wenlon Drive, the woman told Murfreesboro police that King “kicked her in the head, punched her in the mouth, then choked her until she vomited and briefly lost consciousness,” according to an arrest report.
Then, “Mr. King was in the courtyard apartment complex, on his knees, with a five-inch bladed steak knife in his hand. … Mr. King refused to comply when repeatedly told to drop the knife. Mr. King told (the arresting officer) to shoot him and also put the knife to his throat. Mr. King was pepper sprayed and he then dropped the knife and was taken into custody,” MPD officer Ricky Haley said in his report.
The victim was treated at Middle Tennessee Medical Center for a cut and swelling to the face, and scrapes on her arm and leg.
In all, King pleaded guilty to two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon. Charges of public intoxication and violating conditions of a bond were dismissed.
A senior for the upcoming season, King was MTSU’s leading receiver last season with 51 receptions and 598 yards.
The Thomaston, Ga., native, who participated in MTSU football spring practice in March and April, has a redshirt year remaining.
