Fearless predictions for the upcoming season

July 14, 2008 6:00 PM

Posted by ESPN.com's Graham Watson

Will the non-BCS have a Heisman contender? Will it have a first-round NFL draft pick? Will Temple improve on its 4-8 season? I have all your answers here in my fearless predictions for the non-BCS/Independent season.

1. SMU and Temple will have the same amount of wins this season.

2. Tulsa and BYU will each finish with one loss.

3. Boise State will lose on the blue field this year for the first time since 2001.

4. Notre Dame will lose three games this year.

5. Houston will beat Oklahoma State on Sept. 6

6. One non-BCS player will be in the Heisman talk at the end of the year.

7. Navy will win the Commander-in-Chief Trophy – again.

8. Chase Holbrook (New Mexico State), Max Hall (BYU), Nate Davis (Ball State), and whomever plays QB at Tulsa will all pass for more than 4,000 yards this season.

9. Idaho will go winless this season (let the e-mail fly, Vandals fans).

10. East Carolina will beat a team from Virginia this season.

11. Hawaii will slide back to pre-June Jones form.

12. Ball State will be the best team no one is talking about come midseason.

13. Kent State will have a first-round NFL draft pick.

14. The Sun Belt will have four bowl-eligible teams this season.

15. Western Kentucky will not be credited with a Sun Belt win this season.

Could Rusty be up for Heisman talk??

Nice to see the SBC getting some recognition. That means that SBC will be winning tough non-conference games.

Write it down now. Western Kentucky will surprise some SBC teams.

GO OWLS!!!

Isn't WKU still in transition and therefore they can't be credited with a Sun Belt win?  If we lose to them it counts as OOC.

They still technically have a Sun Belt win but they can't win the conference, as far as I understand.

The article is predicting that WKU won't beat anybody in the Sun Belt. Maybe they will, maybe they won't, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did knock off someone.

It does not count as a Sun-Belt win or conference game until they finish the transition requirements.

They still very well might give someone a loss this season. Whether it officially counts as SBC or not doesn't really matter. A loss hurts just the same.

I hope I'm proved wrong but lets not count our chickens before they hatch. I don't think Rusty will be nominated for Heisman this year or next. He's a great QB don't get wrong, just don't see it happening

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

I don't see it happening either. Most likely it will be BYU's QB.
