Sun Belt is not the strongest. I think the coach
is challenging his player to work hard in the off
season and not to get complacent after a great
year - even thought it a weak conference it still
has teams that we will need to play at our best
to beat. I am concerned with the size of our
OF & DF lines against 1-A competition.
Either way critics will have a field day, if we do well
it a weak conference, if we don't going 1-AA was
a mistake. I think we can compete, how well we do
depends how the players responding to the challenge.
Do we have a let down after a great season, to early
to tell. We'll see what develops at spring pratices.

Can we compete? Sure we can. We have a D1-A learning curve like any school who move up.
USF had a year or two before they became competitive in D1-A.
Personally, I say a .500 season will not be a disappointing 1st year with the big boys.
We have to remember the 1st season will still be with D1-AA players. The following year(2005) we should have a decent influx of D1-A talent in place. What does that mean? Our 1st teamers can compete with their 1st teamers. The problem comes with substitutions after the 35th player. That drop off will make the difference.
The critics will say we should do this and that depending on our records.
But the Sun Belt teams are by no means pushovers.
Owls will be OK in the long run.

I agree and expect a couple of wins (at least) against some of the SBC teams. The bad thing is that now it is known how good of a team you guys have so coaches will (better) instill in their team not to take FAU lightly. I would not be suprised at a .500 season from your team. If it is better than that, great. If not, I would not be too concerned. O.G. is right about the first 35 players, it is the quality of depth that makes the difference between 1-AA and 1-A, even the difference between BCS and Non-BCS schools for the most part.

for the long haul of the season, it will be interesting
to see the new recruits and how many make an impact
early - last year we had CB Skinner as freshman making plays all year.
I agree that teams in the SBC won't be takings us
lightly, especially since we beat MTSU - plus I don't
think teams in the SBC want to lose to a team in
transition form D-1AA - like O.G. said Pride.
Hopefully all this makes for is better football games
and help raise the level of play.

Too quiet. Have this scary feeling we'll get these 245lb guys and attempt to over-feed them again.
Let's try the Madden approach. Get the 350lbers and make them lose down to 300..

I know the talk is the beef-up the DL and getting the
front four to put more pressure on the opposing QB.
It's seems that we have been undersized from the beginning, even the D-II schools we played had bigger linemen's.
