Additional Pressure

Now with all the national attention FAU is getting and with NFL scouts roaming the side lines, is this putting extra pressure on the seniors to preform or is it a blessing that the team will reap benefits from.

IMO, the team will benefit greatly from this, the players should respond to the challenge for a chance to move up to the next level.

Additional Pressure

I think it's good for them to have the NFL eyes upon them. It keeps them on their toes and the intensity level will always be at it's peak.
Glad to see that the scouts know that coach Schnelly produces winners. Check out that line by the scout from Cincinatti. ;D

Owls get attention from NFL scouts

BOCA RATON ? Florida Atlantic's recent success has garnered the Owls some national attention, and now even the National Football League is taking notice.

At least 10 scouts from NFL teams were at practice Tuesday as the Owls prepared for Saturday's game at Texas State.

Being noticed by the NFL is just another sign that the program is growing, said FAU coach Howard Schnellenberger.

"There really haven't been any here until now, but we've got some candidates," Schnellenberger said.

The Owls' top pro prospects are quarterback Jared Allen, running back Doug Parker, linebacker Tyrone Higgins and wide receiver Roosevelt Bynes.

FAU, which started its program in 2001, may have been under the radar of scouts before because the Owls have had a limited number of seniors.

However, with nearly 30 players to evaluate, it simply is too good an opportunity to pass up.

"We're looking at all the seniors," said Cincinnati scout Bill Tobin, who watched the first half of the workout. "We're basically looking at anybody if they played for Howard."

The Owls have noticed when they are under the watchful eye of the scouts. Allen was getting the most attention Tuesday.

"The guys start making the rounds this time of a year, you know they are there so you just try to do your best," said Allen.

Parker questionable: Senior running back Doug Parker is questionable for Saturday's game because of a sprained toe in his right foot.

"Hopefully by Thursday or Friday it'll be 100 percent, but right now it's not," said Parker, who has run for 99.3 yards per game in 2004. "

Parker, an Atlantic High graduate, didn't participate in Tuesday's practice and was wearing a soft cast on his foot; he also was held out of practice last week. He injured the toe Sept. 18 against Middle Tennessee State.

Senior running back Anthony Jackson took the majority of the carries in practice and would start if Parker can't play.

"I think he'll want to play, whether he feels good enough we'll have to wait and see," Schnellenberger said.

Illinois State game Nov. 20: After securing its travel plans, Illinois State has committed to playing the Owls at 4 p.m. Nov. 20 at Lockhart Stadium.

The original game between the Redbirds and the Owls on Sept. 25 was postponed because of Hurricane Jeanne.

To keep Illinois State on the schedule, FAU moved its game vs. Florida International, which was scheduled for Nov. 20, to 4 p.m. Dec. 4 at Pro Player Stadium.

Tickets for the original games will be honored for the rescheduled games.

Noteworthy: Tight end Ben Coker has a sprained right ankle and could miss Saturday's game.
