Manning Joins Men's Basketball
Freshman becomes sixth player inked by Doherty.

Aug. 22, 2005

BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University men's basketball head coach Matt Doherty announced David Manning has signed a grant-in-aid to play for the Owls beginning with the 2005-06 season. Manning is a 6-2, 185 guard who starred last season at Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, TX.

"We are excited to have David join our program," said Doherty. "He is a fine young man who represents all that we look for in a student-athlete at FAU. He's a good person and a good student from a good family. As a player, he gives us another ball handler who can run the team while putting terrific pressure on opposing guards. We were fortunate to find him at such a late date."

Manning averaged 13 points and five assists as a senior at Tyler Lee, leading the team in both categories. As a shooting guard, Manning helped lead his team to a 26-9 record. He was an All-District, All-East Texas and First-Team Academic All-District selection as a senior.

Doherty has signed six players since taking over at FAU in April. Manning joins Brent Crews (Jr, G, 6-1, 210, Chipola, FL), Kevin Green (Jr, G, 5-11, 175, Philadelphia, PA/Santa Fe C.C.), Paul Graham (Fr, G, 6-4, 185, Philadelphia, PA/Philadelphia Lutheran), Carlos Monroe (Fr, F, 6-7, 235, Cape Coral, FL/Cape Coral HS) and DeAndre Rice (Jr, G, 6-3, 200, Flint, MI/Frank Phillips College).
