GAME NOTES: The Florida Atlantic Owls will try for their first victory of the season when they clash with the UL-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns in a Sun Belt Conference tilt this Thursday at Cajun Field. Florida Atlantic hasn't had any success this season and brings an 0-5 record into the game. The team was last in action five days ago, when it was embarrassed by Louisville, 61-10 in a non-conference showdown. Although the Owls have allowed 188 points in their first five games, they have had one of the toughest schedules in the nation and have faced teams such as Kansas, Oklahoma State, Minnesota and Louisville.

As for the Ragin' Cajuns they opened their 2005 season with a demoralizing 60-3 setback to Texas and followed up with a horrendous loss to Eastern Michigan, 31-10. ULL finally posted a victory with a strong 49-28 victory over Division I-AA Northwestern State on September 17th. Last week the Cajuns fell just short against UCF, as the Golden Knights netted a last second field goal to defeated ULL, 24-21. After this weekend's battle with the Owls, ULL will hit the road to tangle with Arkansas State and Middle Tennessee State in a Sun Belt Conference showdown.

The Owls have struggled tremendously on offense this season, as they are averaging a mere 277.2 total ypg. The lack of production has hurt the Owls in the scoring department, as the squad is boasting just 12.0 ppg. FAU was dreadful this past week against Louisville, racking up a meager 202 total yards. The offense tallied just 15 yards on the ground and 187 yards through the air. Danny Embick was a moderate success, completing 12-of-20 tosses for 161 yards and one score. However, the signal caller was sacked five times. On the year, he has thrown for 850 yards and six scores, while also rushing for 115 yards. Thomas Parker has been the only real threat for Embrick down the field as the wide out has grabbed 15 passes for 276 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, the Owls have been torched by the opposition all season and are currently allowing 37.6 ppg behind 448.6 total ypg. The unit has been abused on the ground, where they are giving up a horrendous 248.4 rushing ypg. Of the team's 23 touchdowns allowed this season, 17 have come on the ground. In the team's last game, FAU put forth an abysmal effort against Louisville, allowing 608 total yards. The unit forced just one turnover and was unable to get to the quarterback once. Greg Joseph had a strong outing against the Cardinals, leading the unit with nine tackles to go along with one TFL and one interception. On the season, Shomari Earls and Kris Bartels have paced the FAU defense with 37 tackles apiece.

After posting 544 total yards against Northwestern State in their previous contest, the Cajuns struggled last week, recording just 309 total yards against UCF. The ineffectiveness of the offense could have been the result of quarterback Jerry Babb being sidelined early in the contest with a shoulder injury. Babb tossed just three passes in the game and gave way to Michael Desormeaux, who finished the contest just 14-of-26 for 119 yards and two interceptions. Although Desormeaux struggled under center, he was able to rack up 76 yards on 17 carries. Tyrell Fenroy added 66 yards on 14 totes for the Cajun ground game, which totaled 181 yards in the loss. ULL has done extremely well on the ground this season, averaging 189.2 ypg. However, the aerial attack has not had the same success, averaging just 186 ypg.

Defensively this season the Cajuns has struggled immensely allowing 35.8 ppg behind a whopping 451.0 ypg. Last week against UCF, the unit allowed 361 total yards and 129 yards on the ground, which is a vast improvement for a team that has allowed 236.8 ypg on the ground this season. The Cajun defense recorded five sacks in the setback and one interception. Michael Adams paced the Cajuns with 12 tackles, while Mark Risher finished with nine stops, one forced fumble and one sack. Risher leads the Cajun defense with 31 tackles on the year, while Adams is directly behind him with 30 stops.

Florida Atlantic has had little success this season on either side of the ball, but that should change this weekend when they battle UL-Lafayette without star quarterback Jerry Babb.

Were on the road against a subpar team. We should squeak one out and put up atleast 20 on the board. Our defense should hold these characters under twenty.

+6 on it……
