Going for two?
- Test Clayton's ability in the endzone under all the extra pressure for getting the two,
- Up 17 points against a team who's not faring well offensively (obviously later this proved to be more of a problem than first thought),
- Prove that our offense can come through in that situation.
Anyway, hindsight is 20/20 and it would have been nice to get the two but it just didn't work out and noone would have assumed that in the 4th Quarter UNT could barrel through from 6 points to 23 points to tie the game in very short time. That UNT freshman QB Matt Phillips did very nicely against our defense, whereas Daniel Meager's performance was, well, meager LOL. Still it was a good game! There must have been some reason that Coach went for the two - maybe being a certain amount of points over in the 4th Quarter of the game most teams would go for the 2 instead of the Extra Point? I don't agree it should have been done but of course that's hindsight now knowing we didn't make it happen and almost blew our win in the end. Still, GREAT JOB OWLS! Chalk up another Conference Win and this time against UNT when it counts for a conference game… FAU 2 UNT 0, I smell another MTSU battle!
FAU sure knows how to keep it interesting - I will say that! And this time they came through in the end with Kennard! ;)

Going for two?
I didn't really understand his explaination. I didn't play college ball and I never heard what he had said before.
Apparently going for two at that point in the game with difference in score as it was at that time is the standard play. Like I said I didn't quite understand it and the way I worded it is not the same way it was explained by the commentator. The commentator, what ever his name was didn't seem to have a problem with the 2 point attempt.
O.G. seems to be the board expert on football coaching. Hopefully when he reads this he might have an explaination.
I agree though. With the momentum as it was at that time, I question the 2 point attempt. Speaking of that. The FAU teams up until last year were strong 2nd half teams. That doesn't seem to be that way this year. The Owls will have the momentum in the first half and lose it in the 2nd when the other team figures out what to do during half time.

going for two would make the lead 19, meaning if NT scored 2 tds with 2pt conversions and a field goal, we would be tied. so to lose in regulation, fau would have to surrender 3 tds.
That most likely was the reason in a nutshell. Besides a lot of team will do it early to avoid the pressure of doing it later when it may be a MUST score.
Thanks illinoisowl but I am no way an expert in coaching. My opinions are just like everyone else's on here. A view of the game from the stands..
Oh yeah! I did stay a night at a Holiday Inn once… ;D
GhostOfBuchanan,
Keep your opinions coming. Don't repress your thoughts about the team because of differing opinions on the board. But…also don't be surprised if someone disagrees with you and take a different position of what you say.
We all are FAU fans and want the team to do well.
