FAU got their first conference series win of the year by spliitting a doubleheader today to go to (2-4,12-12) on the year. After letting game 1 of the DH slip away due to some painful errors, FAU showed a lot of character snapping back with a 10 run 6th inning in the nightcap to win 12-6. Ovy Ramirez hit his first two homeruns as an Owl with 1 in each game of the Doubleheader.
FAU will be off until next Friday night when they will get a big test against a good North Florida team.

FAU wins Series 2-1 over Kennesaw

Stats for KSU 3 game series:
Avg AB R H RBI BB SO LOB
Hafer……. .545 11 4 6 0 3 0 4
Cook……. .077 13 2 1 2 1 1 8
Ramirez… .571 14 3 8 7 0 1 2
Mascia….. .154 13 2 2 0 2 1 5
Silversmith .500 14 4 7 3 1 0 0
Fonseca… .214 14 2 3 1 0 2 9
Block…….. .455 11 3 5 1 0 2 0
Stevens… .222 9 2 2 2 0 1 2
Albano….. .556 9 1 5 2 0 0 0

Grades:
Hafer………. A+ Steady forward progress offensively and is always reliable defensively no matter where KC plays him (lf, rf, cf or 1b). Led the team with .500 avg for the week. Leads team with .481 on base percentage. Perhaps the leadoff position in the batting order has helped by removing pressure to deliver rbi's. That being said however, we still need him to deliver in the clutch rbi situations. Having led his summer league team in rbi indicates that he has the capability.
Cook………. C We need, and will get, more from him offensively. Has proven to be consistantly reliable defensively at 3rd.
Ramirez…… A+ Continues to be our offensive force with .375 avg and 23 rbi, but he also continues to be plagued by errors (a very costly one in game 1 of Sats. double header). I still contend his best postion is DH.
Mascia…….. C- Consistency is the key with Mas. He sat out the Rutgers game. DH'd against Columbia and went 2 for 4 with 2rbi and a run scored. Then went 0-4, 1-5 and 1-4 with 2 runs and 0 rbi in the 4 slot against KSU. We need him back on track with previous performance.
Silversmith.. A+ Great KSU series. Steady offensively and defensively. KC has done a good job of keeping his bat in the lineup when he's not catching, but have to wonder if KC is flirting with trouble with a catcher in left field.
Fonseca…… B- I love the guy defensively, but could have killed him for the stupid, ill advised throw after an outstanding diving catch in Sats. game one, which ultimately contributed in costing us the game. His KSU series team leading 9 men LOB hopefully isn't repeated anytime soon. He will turn it around.
Block……….. A+ .400 for the week. Solid player all the way around and great contributor. Nobody gets more pissed than himself when he doesn't deliver. Great competitor.
Stevens….. B Hasn't seen alot of action this year, but went 2-8 as DH in 2 of the 3 games.
Albano……. A+ AA has slid a little from his strong start, but came through strong again in the KSU series.

The injury list:
McKenna…. Scheduled to get his knee scoped. May be out for another 3 weeks.
McBryde….. How much longer will he be out?
Widlansky.. Out longer than McBryde?
Shapland… ????????

A couple of days of much needed and much deserved rest after a 4W-1L week. 2 out of 3 against UNF would be great and keep us in the middle of the pack in the A-Sun. Good luck and Go Owls!

Post #269 Palm Beach Post Reports FAU's McBryde Lost for Season Reply

Palm Beach Post – Marcus Nelson

McBryde out for season:
FAU's baseball team will be without junior outfielder Mike McBryde, who will miss the rest of the season with a torn hamstring.

"He could take over a game," FAU coach Kevin Cooney said. "Not many people could do the things he does. It's a huge loss, but he gave the team an emotional lift whenever he was up."

Not only was McBryde the catalyst for FAU's lineup, he was the team's closer.

"It's like losing two players," Cooney said.

Third baseman Robbie Widlansky likely is also out for the season with a similar injury.

A couple of weeks back McBryde was confirmed as being out for the season, Coach Cooney even mentioned it in one of his Diamond Diary posts, also Widlansky is 99% sure gone for the season also. As you mention McKenna will be out a while longer.
As frustrating as this season has been, we really have done pretty well to be 12-12 considering we lost our superstar player and several others have been hurt also.
By the way GoOwls-I was right there with you when Fonseca made that throw in the first game of the DH-just plain heartbreaking, not to mention the ugly pickoff throw that let the go ahead run score.
North Florida has been very inconsistant(Much like us) so lets hope they are down this weekend-we could use a break!
