Question on offseason training

Post

Since I did not go to a college with football (late 1970's at FAU), what does the team do collectively or individually in the off season to train. I know practices can't be held except for certain times of the year. Is there something organized at FAU or other colleges to make sure the players show up in spring and summer in fairly good shape?

Question on offseason training

Off season it is the weight training and running. A lot of the kids will put in a lot of extra time. Talking to a few of them they know what happened last year with the departure of so many starters. So a lot of them have been hitting it pretty hard to get ready.

There wasn't a lot to be passed down by the outgoing group because they weren't there. Practically ever OL and DL were first timers and I think they ran out of gas at the end. So conditioning they do and the experience gained kind of plays into what they do to prepare.

Last year and the year before they had a pretty good recruiting class and this year would have been a normal entrance into play but because of the loss of players they hit it a year early bad for last year but could be good for this season and better the season after..

Spring gives you a look at what you have and what you need to do to get ready. Last year it was more of a damage control for survival. The end of the season we lost the last little bit of experience when Danny went down.

Also….

They have off-season workout schedules. The coaches will give them the target schedules before they leave for the year. Each player/group have a certain mark to hit by a certain date. When they come back for Spring ball that's when the coaches can tell if they have been working out consistently. They know where the player should be on the scale.

Incoming freshmen will also be mailed a workout schedule for the summer. This will let the incoming player know what to expect beyond the high school years. The guys who were recruited should have received theirs a long time ago.

FAU have a pretty good Strength and Conditioning coach.

Question on offseason training

Isn't FAU starting late with spring ball?

Troy started several weeks ago and already had its T-Day game. Miami is under way, as are some of the others in this state.

Does FAU have any kind of final public scrimmage game?

Question on offseason training

A lot of teams have finished for the Spring but a lot are also just starting this week. No Texas was the earliest back in early February!

FAU have a few offense vs defense games during the Spring. They don't have an official named game but refs with their flags are present.

Also, they play a scrimmage on every Saturday. The last game is normally the "un-named" Spring Game.
