FAU loses a Heartbreaker 5-4

Post

FAU lost to Gardner Webb 5-4 to drop to 6-9,20-18 on the year. FAU left quite a few runners on base in the last few innings and just couldnt quite get the big hit to move them over the top.
FAU remains in 9th place in the conferene for now but we still have half the conference season to go starting with last place Belmont next weekend on the road. Its going to be a tough fight to make it to the conference tourney but hopefully some wins against Belmont will start pushing us in the right direction.

FAU loses a Heartbreaker 5-4

Thats really too bad. We all had our hopes up this year when the team had such a good preseason rank. Looking at the roster, there are plenty of young players to return next year. Although this year could still turn out good.

FAU loses a Heartbreaker 5-4

As bad as things have gone there still is very realistic hopes for this year. The bottom 3 teams miss the conference tourney and although were now officially in 10th out of 11 teams were right behind a cluster of teams.
6th-Stetson 7-8
7th-ETSU 8-10
8th-Lipscomb 8-10
9th Campbell 8-10
10th FAU 6-9
11th Belmont 6-12

As you can see if we can get two out of three from last place Belmont next weekend we will catch up to three teams right in front of us. We are also only one game behind Stetson whose 4 spots ahead of us. If we could just put together a great 3 game series we can go rocketing up the standings.
So dont give up hope yet for this year-its not too long of a shot to have FAU squeeze into the conference tourney. Once your in its anyones game-the season begins anew-the regular season is forgotten. Jacksonville just won the whole thing a couple of years ago as the last team to get in shocking the top two seeds UCF and FAU so it can happen!
Lets go stomp Belmont next weekend-GO FAU!

FAU still has 15 conference games left (nine at home), including series against Belmont, Libscomb, Stetson and ETSU so the season is far from over.

Heartbreaker is right! Our guys were in a position to take the lead in this game on a couple occasions (which is what you hope for) and just couldn't capitalize.
With the closeness of the records we still have a strong shot at making the cut. We've already played 4 of the top 5 teams with a tie-breaker advantage over KS and a chance to sweep JU in our house. Now the speculation begins. If we win out our conference games we'll finish 21-9 (highly unlikely :)). With a 2-1 split with each remaining conference series we finish 16-14 which should be good enough to get us in. We definitely can't duplicate our 6-9 record the second half of our conference games and expect to make it. (The last time a losing conference record got into the tourney was 2002).
McKenna may be back, if not this weekend then perhaps for the Jax series. Haven't heard if Woody will be back or not. I heard that Shapland left the team!!
Hopefully our guys will rise to the challenge and finish strong to be able to make the second trip to Deland this season for the A-Sun tourney. I've shown a positive attitude by making my reservations. Go Owls!
