Flashback:K. Winslow's "Soldier" reference

Remember when he made the remark about how "we're soldiers out there and things happen in the heat of battle" after a UM game? He was crucified by the media and everyone who had a computer. How dare he compare sports with actual war rhetoric. Although people have been doing it for centuries, I wondered then was the upheaval all because of who said it. He wasn't too well liked.

I've heard so many athletes and announcers use war reference's since that night a few years ago. Including last night when announcer Collins said he'd "take Phoenix Suns guard Steve Nash Into the trenches with him anytime" .

Could it be because it was Mr Mouth, K. Winslow/UM? The timing of the phrase itself? Or have we become less sensitized to the Iraq War?
