This is a new team. They graduated many starters, not all, this past spring. So it is hard to tell what they will field this fall.

Defensively, we graduated the best Defensive Back in a suspect backfield in current Atlanta Falcon Nick Turnbull. However, we do return the rest of the D-backs…hopefully they will be better….Two of our starting linebackers return, Keyonvis Bouie, tabbed as one of the 55 finalists of the Bronko Nagurski Pre-Season Watch list, for the top defensive player on the nation. He is also, along with Defensive End Antwan Barnes, listed in the Pre-Season Watch List of the Lombardi Award, as one of the top 43 players for that award. The only two from Florida. The D-Line is young, graduated 2 or 3 part-time starters, but returns 3 starters, at least part-timers…..
I think you should win, since we are just now getting to fill up our depth…I, like Illinoisowl mentioned, don't know what to expect from this team, as it is certainly talented, but don't know about overall experience and depth.
This is my "honest" take, and as objective as I always try to be, usually backed by facts, not by inuendos.

Those guys check this board all the time. Any "honesty" will prevoke a little posting battle on here.

Illinoisowl..someone hijacked your computer! ;D
I agree. You wouldn't know what to expect from them this year. They do have to replace some key people from last year's squad. But I wouldn't say to take them lightly as a tune-up. They do have some talent left. You DB's will be very busy. Williams and Jenkins will have to keep on theirs toes because Strock will air it out! Otherwise your safeties, Gachette/Burnett/Verpael have to make a lot of tackles.
I'm sure the coaches won't overlook anyone on the schedule. Especially a team with that many Florida players on the roster. That equals loads of talent. Remember how Louisville probably felt coming into your game last year? And we all know what happened there.
Can't help but think how Hawaii overlooked at us. Right up until Timmy Chang's final incomplete pass play of the game and they lost.
Like FIUFanatic said, you should win the game but you will be in a game. Some of these guys know each other. That always add to the excitement.

A quick look at usf's schedule lists fiu as one of early games. Alot of people I've talked with have cast this one as merely a tune-up game but I was curious seeing as you've encountered them so many times what your impressions of this team are.
Well, I'm hoping that we'll play you as tough as we did K-State last year, maybe even a bit better

Our defense looks pretty good, should finish among the top 20. We've got one of the best linebacking trios in the country as well. Loads of speed all around, should be pretty dominant.
Big question though is at the qb position which has been notoriously inconsistent. There are still questions regarding whether Julmiste, Hill, or Groethe will get the starting position. Julmiste was woefully inconsistent in past seasons but looked pretty spot on at times during the spring, Hill has plenty of pure talent but due to academic reasons missed out on much of spring practice, Groethe has issues with interceptions but can still handle the position pretty well. With performer Andre Hall gone at rb it just means the qb is going to have to shine even more.
Whoever the starting qb is, if fiu's defense can start to squeeze some mistakes out of him then we definitely should have a game on our hands. I hardly expect a team like fiu to roll over and die, however young they may be there seems to be some definite talent. Should make for an interesting in-state matchup too, I'll be at ray-jay and curious to meet some golden panther fans.
