How would you handle this one as it relates to football?

YOUR Marketing/Promotional Ideas

Confession: I am not a marketing specialist. That said, I see a need for very aggressive and well-planned approaches to vendors who might find sponsorships of FAU sensible because of geographic location (good market) and name identification. One of these is Wise Foods, maker of Wise potato chips and other snacks. The bags have an Owl logo. The company participates in sponsorships for UM football, Duke basketball and some pro sports in the NE. Check out the link:

Have we approached this company? How long is the deal with UM? Would they consider a two-pronged sponsorship in South Florida? Even if they started small with FAU, that's a step.

Have our people brainstormed about other companies whose names and geographic interests would fit into the FAU picture? I haven't had time to do this. But we must have someone(s) who does have the time.

Hey, don't forget about the Naming Rights for the stadium . Just heard on the news this morning that Bright House (was Time Warner Cable) will have the naming rights for the UCF Stadium. I Mil a year for 15 or 18 years.

Great ideas !

Not only can the stadium be named ( I am assuming they have already secured naming rights ) we can sell naming for the press box, the field/court/, shopping area, seat sections, sell lifetime season tickets, etc…

Anything "owl" needs to be an "official sponsor" of the FAU Owls.

We need yearly themes - a slogan/goal/song - get the students and community talking and excited.

Saturate the media with FAU – what about Pop Ups ;D

We are well on our way - I too think they have done a great job so far !

well i am a marketing specialist, and i have many ideas that WILL help FAU. First and foremost you have to target exactly who the football team represents, FAU, the students, faculty, staff and so on. With in this I would set up teams to target each consumer segment. One at the students and another at the other segment. Student segment is very large and may be broken down due to the vass diversity of the student body…..I can do alot when everyone is focused on little parts of the big puzzle…….but i don't have that nor do i have the true information to give a percise detail of what I would do, but some things that I know I would do…….whats better than a kobe bryant poster? kobe bryant in front of you…….the football team needs to get out themselves……just like nfl players have to, get out into the community…….i would send em to local schools of all sorts with a motivational speaker to speak in front of the kids and to pitch there is a home game this week and to tell their parents to take em (thats very blunt, wouldnt put it like that) weeks of home games the football players will wear their jerseys, cheerleaders in uniforms, ……sounds high schoolish, but people will get the message…….the greek community brings huge #s to the game…….work play a promotional campaign with them to get more people out………#1 thing tho, to start tradiditon, that is the goal and thats how FAU will grow……….a prep rally can start that up………one that the students know about……….students are what start tradition, make it like a kickoff party that is too huge that students simply can't say no to going to……you have it on campus right by the dorms……say in the pits, put a landmark there that students surround, every year do this, set up a big stage, get big time musicians to hype it up, a name that everyone will hear about…..put it on a friday and have the party go on all weekend long…………………………i know this all sounds vague, but to lay it all out, my marketing plan will be a book…..much like all media plans…..but faufbl your right on getting yearly themes, but some need to turn to tradition and saturating media is exactly what you want to do as well, owl radio is now on i think AM radio (might be FM) but it still got bigger broadcast and owl tv should work to local cable……pop ups are not the way, to much power in the consumer to block them……..cell phone marketing to students would be an idea that could be pondered on…………………local restaurant support is better…..more than just a football helmet in their restaurant that is hidden behind the UF and UM helmets……..do more promotions with them and they will respond like a mirror………….lots of ideas in the head……..just wish i had the position to use them……..
