I have been reading up a bit on Miami Herald, and some blog…i know its early to tell, but what do you think they will offer this year…some interesting comments by OC James Coley:
''I just saw a bunch of guys that were lost,'' Coley said of the 2006 offense that averaged fewer than 10 points a game. ``There was no rhyme or reason for what they were doing . . . The scheme was not a bad concept, but five out of 11 guys didn't know what they were doing sometimes and there's a problem with that."
i dont know if i agree with him…they were young, and learning a complicated offense (pro style)…im out to the jury…dont know if all the hype with produce anything, or if the "rawness" of Cristobal will have effect on his ability to effectively "run the show"…spirited pratices are one thing, game decisions and play calling are another - entirely…he's green in my book…
one thing is for sure - you can talk spread offense all you want, and deem it a saviour for a lackluster offense, but you better have athletes to make it work - see Hawaii, or Boise State for illustration…they aren't standing out as head and shoulders above anyone in the conference…quite the contary actually…
im not sold…

As for FIU, it remains to be seen. I think they will be an improved squad. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong last year. I do not see that happening again.

Thought(s) on FIU...
My first feeling was that it was a team that was alot more than the sum of it's parts, they played us pretty hard it would seem.
On second thought though, alot of that was just dumb luck. I got the feeling later on that it might not have had so much to do with them playing a good game and alot more to do with us just handing that game over. They only finished one actual drive and were totally shut down in the second half. To top it off, that usf team was a far cry from the fully ready squad that took the field in the second half of the season.
I think that FIU has some serious talent for the level that they play at but there's a lack of leadership. With the right coach in place to cut down the mistakes and keep the team focused they could be favourites in the belt. In fact, I get the distinct impression that were they to get their hands on a focused and talented coaching staff that they could wax fau year in and year out, but this is just a gut feeling so don't take it too seriously.
I think the key to all this is Cristobal and whether he can actually coach or not. I have some serious reservations about this, I'm not convinced he's got the ability with x's and o's to get things done. How good FIU will depend so much on MC and I really can't provide a reliable estimate of his coaching ability until I see some on field product.

In walk-ins MC much like Rex Walters did for us this year in basketball - no head coaching experience and we all know that Rex did a heck of a Job learning on the fly.
I would expect the same for MC, except it's take awhile longer in football, more players involved in a play, more room for errors that can kill drives, etc…… - we all know from first hand experience FAU had to deal with our OL the past several years.
Now, they may very well be a more discipline team, because MC had a chance to get rid of some (all) the dead wood, by this I mean he will be evaluating every player anew, every position is a battle for a starting spot, so no staring spot is guaranteed.
It's way to early to make any form of prediction now, the players have a lot to digest - fall will be a much better indicator.
And what would be considered a successful season for FIU?

What the heck does that mean, that's like saying, if FIU scored more points than FAU then they would probably win every game. Your an idiot.
I can't wait until we wax your ass.

I think they are going to come off their 5th year the same way we did so long as the new coaching staff can pull it all together. As long as they don't have tons of injuries in the OCC games they should hold there own in the SB.

We have and will continue to dominate FIU, they had 1 good game against our freshman squad, otherwise we own them.
Brazenbull, I must hand it to you… once again you have demonstrated why we (FAU) is soooo looking forward to kicking your cackling ass up and down the field this fall.
