Three universities get special treatment

A further example of why legislators in Florida wants to keep FAU as some kind of low-reputation commuter school instead of a respected research university with a traditional student base:

I don't understand why they wouldn't want every college in Florida to be a UF or FSU. We'd produce incredible students, incredible faculty, and incredible research. Florida could be the academic center of the universe.

Imagine how many more professors we could hire with one million dollars. We could add about 12 professors a year at that rate.

The only upside that I see to this is the possibility of positioning FAU as a first choice school – not because the school is more appealing due to events or academics or traditions, but simply because it's cheaper. And then we could become more selective.

But I think the million dollars would be a better route to that same end.
