We obviously need to write in and show our support to counterbalance this. Otherwise the state is going to see a bunch of negative letters and feel like everyone in the community is against building a stadium.

According to the Post, FAU is "an academic environment in which students are not always the priority". Give some evidence before making such a claim. Who do you think football, the stadium, and the additional dorms are for? The faculty? FAU is a wonderful academic environment and a better place than ever for students.

I have a question for the Palm Beach Post: why should any school play any sports at all? Why do high schools play football with taxpayer money? It obviously has nothing to do with school in the US. FAU announced its football intentions in the last millennium. The time is long past for these articles.

That's an older article (and I'm sure we posted it before this) but let's go with it…
I think the Post claims that FAU is an academic environment in which students are not always the priority because on one hand they're publishing articles where we say we have to cut back on classes because we don't have the money but on the other hand they're also publishing articles saying we're building a $62 million stadium.
Did we cut back on classes? Yeah. Did we also have a gazillion sections of College Algebra, College Writing, etc? Yeah. Is it difficult to get into some of the specialty-specific higher level classes because the professors "don't feel like" having more than 15 students? Yeah. Do forty-year-olds, returning to get a degree at night while working during the day, complain that there aren't enough night classes because most professors don't want to teach night classes? Yeah.
None of the people I know at FAU (which is a lot) ever got shut out of a class because of budget cuts.
