I must admit i was a little bitter Jimmy didnt live  up to his previous committment…BUT, knew something was up when Rex said he would follow Jimmy and support him fater leaving here…Rex is a smart coookie…and now we know why:

ladies and gentleman, our once a Florida gator, then verbally an Owl, then not an Owl, then to CC, then to Ga State verbally, then back to FAU verbally, and now OFFICIALLY an Owl with a Signed Letter of Intent:

6-10 250lb Center
Jimmy Sutton

wow…we should be pretty good next year!!!

ps, forget the 0 stars they list…no one pays attention to half of the guys like this who bounce around…he was good enough to sign under Billy Donovan…enough said…

Re: Jimmy Sutton signs as an Owl - this time for good!

How much eligibility will he have left? Did he never play for GSU?

Well anyway, here is the center we have been loooking for and a potential dominating one at that. It too bad we don't have him now. Sutton and Monroe would make a good combo. There are only so many players on the court you can double team.

Should be a break out season next year.

Re: Jimmy Sutton signs as an Owl - this time for good!

knees are in fine shape…he's been playing at Ocala CC…no issue there…

got grades in order (appearantly Rex's initial issue) and is on track…

did not play at GA State…never enrolled - Coach Left…

Two years left apperantly…

1 at Florida, but that was redshirted due to injury…

Then was coming here, but went to CC instead, then was going to leave after last year fro GA State but backed out of LOI…(will have played two years of ball eligibility wise)

see this article:

Sutton plans return to CFCC | Ocala.com

Extra(s):

"In the 2006 Juco Rankings by NBADraft.net of November, 2006, Sutton was listed as the third best center in JUCO basketball. "

"At North Broward Prep, Sutton left as that school’s all-time leader in blocked shots. The big man averaged a double-double for the season with 12.5 points and 10.5 rebounds. As a junior, his 23-4 team advanced to the state title game as he showed his skills with 13 rebounds, 11 points and four blocks a game."

"Sutton played on a 22-11 CFCC Patriots team last year that was runner-up in the Florida state junior college tournament. He shot 56.7 percent from the field in addition to his rebounding and shot blocking."

Great info Florida_Owl.

2008 is setting up nicely to be the year of the Owls, both Football AND Basketball.

Oh, and we have a whole lot of 2007 to go yet as well ;D

Oh, and we have a whole lot of 2007 to go yet as well ;D

not to mention we still have one more scholarship to offer for hoops…which i Hope will go to a premier SG  - similiar to Dre as a pure shooter…if we do that, im calling for Top 25 next season…too many weapons to hold us back:

Offensive:

Monroe - Post, post, and then post…did i mention post?
Graham - Drive, create, and 3 point
Pena - 3 point dagger, passer, and great overall skill
Owens - Drive, finisher around basket
*TBD (one more shcolarship to offer - Hopefully 4 star SG Riley)

Defensive (potential shot blocking machine)

Sutton - biggest guy in the conference hands down (besides FIU's lackey which i am not hot on at all), swat, swat, and swat some more…
Royster - Swat junior….defends the four man now instead of a center = big + and sizes him up nicely

the only thing that would keep us from it is the learning curve…but one thing is for sure, no learning curve in raw talent! Sign Riley and i think we could shoot our way through the growing pains :)

the big man hole was a HUGE one to fill, and we did it well with Sutton…

Re: Jimmy Sutton signs as an Owl - this time for good!

I've read that Sutton is a very physical center. Very strong. Great presence in the paint. He will improve under Rex.

Sutton might get a few big recruits to come our way in his two years at FAU.

Jimmy Sutton signs as an Owl - this time for good!

we're not giving credit to where credit is due…

sutton is not the "start" of the momentum

dago pena is the big catch and he STARTED the momentum for sutton to sign… other "high mid-major" talents will followed because of dago, not sutton

dago should be playing at michigan or ole miss, but chose us for walters' basketball mind… he is the big catch
