Just wondering. Is there any discussion regarding a Men's Track team at FAU? It would also help with Football recruiting.
The problem is Title IX, which specifies a ratio between the number of male and female athletes. It won't happen unless another women's sport is also added.

Doesn't title IX have to do with the number of scholarships offered. They could start a team with no or limited number of scholarships like the men's hockey team which competes, I believe, in Div III.
Yes, it has to do with scholarships. AFAIK, the men's hockey team has nothing to do with our athletic department. It's a club team and operates under student government.

Re: Men's Track
Title IX has to do wtih scholarships and quantity of men/women athletes.
I had this discussion with some athletic department people in January of 2003 when I was trying to persuade the university to allow dancers and cheerleaders to be treated like athletes and get priority registration when they were registering for classes.
The problem is football. No women's sport has a roster size of over 100 and 80+ scholarships. So, in FAU's case, it has to have other women's sports to equal the roster size of football and the men's sports. Women's track and women's volleyball are two sports that at FAU the men don't have.
Know what I mean?
