Wow, they are doing really well.  What are some of the advantages of going to Troy vs. FAU?  That is not a knock on Troy at all, I think they have a great program…just wondering what the difference in sales pitch are?

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

Re: Recruiting around the Belt

I don't know exactly how they pitch recruits, but I assume they push the fact that Troy plays tough against the best schools in the country each year (Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma State and Arkansas last year and LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma State and others in 2008); features a wide-open spread offense that scores lots of points; has a very nice, well kept very traditional campus with lots of activities, organizations and the like; is building new facilities including nice new apartment-style dorms, all over; has some of the best sports facilities in the SunBelt (new arena is coming), if not other conferences; is close to Florida and the Gulf beaches; enjoys mostly good weather; has very (shockingly) friendly people; is fast growing and about to achieve greater things.

Troy has a chance to get the State of Kentucky's best QB from last season (Corey Robinson) and is working on some key jucos.

From a Troy poster …

Things seem to being really falling Troy's way. Look for more Defense than offense.

QB: My source says don't fret. Corey Robinson will probably committ and sign. FYI: He was a one man team last year, that's why he struggled in the late rounds of the KY playoffs. BJ Daniels is a good possibilty AND LB is not afraid to let him be a two-sport athlete. My source says in one year this kid would be the starting QB. And my source says that one of the many QB commits from Aubarn will probably SIGN with Troy. They have super high hopes for the current TMTDM QB's (No Hansell Beardon sightings). Any additions would just add to our depth.

OL: Durgin is a HUGE pick-up. Don't forget we have a couple of players coming off IR to add to our depth. Not much help needed, but Durgin is a bigtime pickup and most likely would fight for a starting spot.

RB: My source says that if Albert doesn't sign (he thinks we have a 75% chance), then we most definetely will sign Roosevelt Ross (regardless of his qualifying status). Again, we have some talent coming back.

WR: My source says that some WR that TMTDM is "in the mix" for aren't listed anywhere on Rivals or Scout. Including a COUPLE of 4-Star rated recruits. Seriously, why wouldn't you consider TMTDM as a receiver?

Defense: LB has focused mostly on Defense. He is not pleased with last year and has been burning through tapes and gas to recruit more impact defensive players. His efforts are going to pay off.

I think the defensive players already committed are a pretty good indication of where we are headed. Look for some heads to turn when February 6th gets here because of our defensive signees.

Finally, my source says that the staff and LB have really been busting it. They think this will be the best signing class - by far than any other class. It might actually outrank some mid-level SEC schools.

Also, Alcorn State is not final, but who cares? We aren't going to get a DI team this late to visit Troy - period. FYI: Alabama State wants $350,000 to play in Troy - insane. No one in the Southern Conference/OVC is biting either - they all want big money games. Alcorn will bring a crowd and a band - that's more than Austin Peay would.

Troy is taking some heat for the rumored fifth home game opponent (I-AA Alcorn). Troy is finding it very difficult to get non-conference teams to come to Alabama, especially after blasting Oklahoma State last year. The UAB series does not start again until 1010. UCF won't play Troy any more and the reported deal for Western Michigan to come to Troy is apparently dead.

It makes sense that people don't want to play Troy. Too much to lose and nothing to gain. There is nothing wrong with Troy scheduling a 1-AA opponent. Most of the "Big Boys" have on 1-AA team on their schedule each year.

Alcorn is pretty good I think.  At least they were when McNair was there.  :)

Troy plays LSU? good for them.

Re: Recruiting around the Belt

Looks like Troy isn't missing a beat. I hope we can both stay competitive for a long time. I think this is the beginning of a new rivalry and the Troy-FAU football games always turn out to be some of the best. Looking forward to that game next year at Lockhart.

How does the projected starting QB this season compare to Haughabook?

McNair was there in the early 1990s. A lot has changed since then.

My opinion, which is very different from alot of people I know, is that Jamie Hampton and Tanner Jones were better than haugabook. Thing is Haugabook was more consistent. When Haugabook would have to sit out, one of them would jump in, and to me they looked better than Omar, especially the MTSU game. They looked like garbage when we played you guys. I guess what I mean to say is when they play well, they PLAY WELL. But there were lots of, "oh my god, this is what next year looks like? we're going to be bad if we don't find a replacement for Omar" moments. It looks promising. I think they'll step up. They know whats at stake.

As far as recruiting goes, we have two QB's we're looking at hard. Corey Robinson, 91 TD's, 5,873 Yards with a 74% Completion Rate in his senior season, and B.J. Daniels, runs a 4.45, who is dual threat 4-Star QB from Lincoln High School. Corey Robinson will most likely sign with us. Thing is, he's only a one star on either rivals or scout and a two star on the other and a 40 on ESPN. We're guessing those 91 TD's (National HS record for one season) we're against inferior competition. Overall, the QB situation is not as bad as we all think. Everyone thinks Omar was why we were so good because they saw the vast improvements in one season. Secretly, the system we switched to was a huge help. I think Omar was good, but the system is what REALLY got us to be so good. So, it's not like we're abandoning the spread. We'll still be loads better than 2005 (4-7) because of the system Franklin installed. Again, I think people give Omar too much credit. He was awesome, but so is the system. Sorry I repeated myself so much, but I really wanted to get that point across.

Whoever is QB for Troy will be as good as Haugabook or very close to his quality. Just in different ways. If they can't run the ball as well because of size and speed, they'll be more acurate passers. Omar was not that great at passing. His pass/run combo was what made him shine.

Re: Recruiting around the Belt

91 touchdowns in one season!!! That is insane. That is basically 7 or 8 tds per game when playoffs are considered. I would say it is impossible, but I guess not since he did do it. Evidently Louisville is giving him a strong look as well as Kentucky since he is from the commonwealth.
