I worked at a TV station while I was living in Georgia. We used Nielsen. I don't remember how many viewers per household are used by Nielsen but generally there is more than one viewer per household. The demographics for per household may vary per region. I don't remember. Since I was not in the programing dept, I didn't deal with the ratings too much. I did see the book every qtr and sat in on meetings to discuss them after they arrived.
Anyway, there may have been anywhere from 3-5 million viewers that night. Thats a reasonable estimate.

Bytor, I was talking to my wife about the same thing the other night. You kind of get the initial hit of the bowls in the begining and not burned out after watching 15 of them.

Re: New Orleans TV Rating Up -- 1.6M Viewers saw FAU dismantle Memphis
He sent me a PDF of total actual viewers for each bowl game this year covered by ESPN. FAU did very well I think. The bowl aired by ESPN with the most viewers was the Chick-Fil-A Bowl, Clemson vs Auburn with 7.5M viewers. 4.9M households.
Some games, according the the PDF report were run on both ESPN and ESPN2.
The AVG # of viewers per game on ESPN was 3,910,174
The AVG # of Viewers per game on ESPN2 was 1,945,211
I wish there was somewhere to save the report to link it to the board. Can I save it to one of the photo sites and link it?
My Response from the NFF:
See attached. It's the P2+ Column for actual viewers. The New Orleans Bowl had 2,127,122 viewers.
