Boston College comes into town Tuesday and Wednesday night for a two game series.  The Eagles are coming off of back to back impressive wins, defeating Notre Dame Sunday 7-2 and FIU 7-3 Monday night.

This series has me feeling anxious.  This is a good test for our team and could very well be indicative of how our season unfolds.

Here's why…

LAST YEAR: FAU split the series with Boston college dropping a tough opener 5-6 only to come back and stomp the Golden Eagles 15-3 in the second game.

COMING INTO THIS SERIES:

FAU Offense:

Led by Mike McKenna's .486 BA and Travis Ozga's .484 BA, the offense has risen to each challenge.  Whether it was Arata driving in two runs in the ninth to beat Eastern Michigan or Daniel Cook's grand slam on Sunday, the team has made up the lack of pitching with a lot of hot bats.

Mike McKenna - Expect Mike to get the Barry Bonds treatment this series. He walked 4 times in two games against this BC team last year and expect more of the same now, especially how hot he is of late.

Nick Arata - Can't help but feel so happy for this guy.  He really struggled at the plate last year and comes into this series batting .385 with 9 RBI.
In the second game last year vs. Boston College Arata went 3-for-5 with 4 RBI. We'll need more of the same from the shifty shortstop.

Daniel Cook - Ate BC pitchers up last year. Finished 4-for-8.  Although only batting .250 this season, he has done a fine job setting the table as our leadoff hitter.  Oh, he's also leading the team in HR's with 4.

BOSTON COLLEGE

Offense:

Team Captain Eric Campbell is batting .344 as their cleanup hitter. Has a nose for clutch hits.

Brian Butera (.412) BA is coming off a night in which he hit his third HR versus FIU.

Catcher Tony Sanchez owned FAU pitching last year and could be the one to watch this series. He hit a 3 run HR versus Notre Dame and hit an RBI double versus FIU Monday.

FAU DEFENSE:

The fielders looked sloppy in the early stages versus Eastern Michigan.  3 errors in the first inning of the Sunday game was ridiculous and FAU was lucky to get out of it with only allowing 1 run.

William Block has been really struggling at the plate (.281 BA) and Sunday it transpired on the field as he made a few errors.

Pitching:

Not sure who will throw this series.  But I am going with Trayanowski and either Morrison or Storey. The troubles with walks is well documented, we need to throw strikes.

We've allowed 86 runs this year, only 74 of them have been earned. That means we have given up 12 unearned runs. NOT GOOD.

BOSTON COLLEGE DEFENSE:

Here's what makes me nervous. Boston College has made 3 errors all season.

Pitching:

Tough, tough, tough.  The BC pitchers know exactly what they are doing.  The bad news is we are most likely facing their ace, unless Boston College decides to keep him for their series versus UM.

If you hear Terry Doyle is pitching, get ready for a long night. He pitched a CG with 13 k's vs. Mount St. Mary's

Interesting notes:

Sam Shaughnessy, Boston College - son of Boston Globe Columnist Dan Shaughnessy

Mickey Storey - 3 ER this year, but 2 HR.

Boston College - 3 game series versus Miami after we play them.  We could miss their ace for this fact.

Florida Atlantic - 3-1 when hitting a HR; 4-1 when having the lead after six innings.

Bad Innings - FAU has been outscored 20-14 in the sixth inning, about the time Cooney relieves the starters.  Good news is we've outscored everyone in the 4th by a count of 14-1.

Series predictions: Much improved pitching and defense. FAU bats should stay hot with BC gearing up for their ACC opening series at Miami.  FAU wins first game 8-6, second game wins 13-5.
