http://www.jimfeist.com/stats-previews-ncaaf-sunbelt.htmlJust copying our section:
Florida Atlantic (8-5 SU/ATS in 2007) joined the Sun Belt in 2005 and exploded last season going 6-1 SU, 5-2 ATS in the conference to win the league title. Ten starters return to the league's second best offense, led by junior QB Rusty Smith, while eight players are back on defense. The offense averaged 36 points, 147 yards rushing and 292 yards passing in Sun Belt play for Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger.
QB Smith was oustanding as a sophomore, with 3,688 passing yards, 32 TDs and only 9 picks. They soundly beating Memphis in the New Orleans Bowl, 44-27. Senior RB Charles Pierre (756 and 782 yards the last two seasons) leads a strong running game, while junior WR Cortez Gent is off a terrific season with 1,082 yards receiving. 6-3 senior WR Jason Harmon (825 yards) was second in receiving, anchoring a deep and experienced wideout corps. This team was 10-3 over the total with all that offense!
The defense is also loaded. The defense allowed 14 points per game in Sun Belt play in 2006, then last season allowed 26 points per conference contest. The defense returns its best players up front, and lost only its key performers in the secondary. Florida Atlantic's 2008 football schedule is tough, with games at Texas, Michigan State and at Minnesota. Note they are 6-20 SU, 10-14 ATS as a dog since 2005, but they should repeat as Sun Belt champs. They get Troy at home October 7th.
