Dan Hipsher – Current assistant coach at USF, was head coach at Akron for nine seasons, and Zips were 112-137. Also head coach at Wittenberg (97-18) and Stetson (29-27). Hipsher is 53.
Mike Jarvis – Currently unemployed after being fired at St. John’s in 2003. Former head coach at Boston University, George Washington and St. John’s and has 9 NCAA appearances in 18 years, 2 Sweet 16 appearances, one Elite Eight. Overall record of 364-201. Jarvis is 63.
Mike Jaskowlski – Current assistant at UCF, was also an assistant at FSU and Miami and was a head coach at Towson for four seasons, and at D-II Loras College for four years. (See Soderberg for Loras connection).
Wayne Morgan – Currently out of work after being fired at Iowa State in 2006 after three seasons and record of 55-39. Was head coach at Long Beach State for six years before that, and is 146-123 in nine years as D-I head coach. Morgan is 57
Lewis Preston – Currently an assistant at UF under Billy Donovan, was also an assistant at Notre Dame and Coastal Carolina for a total of 10 years experience. He is 37.
Jeff Price – Just finished his ninth season as head coach at Georgia Southern, and has a record of 157-111. Before heading to Georgia, Price started the basketball program at Lynn University in Boca, and had a record of 136-42 and six consecutive national postseason appearances (3 NAIA and 3 D-II). Overall 293-153.
Brad Soderberg – Fired in 2007 after four seasons as head coach at St. Louis, where he was 80-74 with two NIT appearances. Was head coach for one season at Wisconsin, three at South Dakota State and five at Loras College, and has a record of 211-147 as head coach. He is 46.
Scott Spinelli – An assistant at six different schools, currently at Texas A&M, with previous stops at Wichita State, Nebraska, Loyola Chicago, Wyoming and American University. Was a point guard for Jarvis at Boston University. Also an assistant for one season with Philadelphia 76ers.
Good list…lots of solid coaches to choose from. Apparently, if you go by this list, Balado didn't make the cut. Easy to see why…his resume just doesn't add up to the competition. Given the endorsement of some of you guys, hopefully he stays on the staff of the next coach.

It's a shame this search has taken SOOOOO long, most schools already have their man in place. He should look at a D-II school just to get a start at coaching and if he does well then D-I schools will come calling.
My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Coach Billy Donovan - Florida Gators Men's Basketball
Here's an article about his hiring at UF:
Lewis Preston Named Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Florida - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site
Price is unique in that he is the only current head coach on the list and has never been fired.
Jarvis clearly has the most experience and success, but I wonder if the salary expectations are in line with that of the other candidates.
Fortunately, all of the coaches interviewed have great experience.

I am not going to get into a big inside information discussion but suffice to say, the word is Jarvis, 1 year contract.
That's all I know.
Not to doubt you or anything…but you honestly think they would give someone a 1 year contract after going through 3 coaches in 4 years? Highly unlikely. After putting a month into this search, you think they are willing to hire someone for a year and then going through this whole process over again? Angelos has said on numerous occasions he wants a coach that is here for at least 4 or 5 years. My guess is if Jarvis was only willing to sign a 1 year contract, they would immediately move on to their next choice. Plus it is hard to get 100 wins with a team in 1 season…

Just wondering….how do you know its Jarvis that wants the 1 year contract and not FAU?

What university athletics departments hire for one-year contracts (not extensions)? That would defeat the idea of recruiting, retaining and training…

Right, but Jarvis is considered a high risk/high reward coach right? Maybe they want to go year by year with him contractually.

I'm baffled as to why either side would want a 1 year deal. After what they've gone through this off season only to do it again next year would be foolish on FAU's part. If it is Jarvis who wants the 1 year deal then we need to find someone else. If it is FAU who wants the 1 year deal, well then they need to buy a clue.
LOL…I completely agree. It makes no sense for either party. First of all, as we know all too well, long term contracts don't mean much when it comes to coaches getting another job. Any coach could just as easily leave with 5 years remianing on a contract just as easily as he can when his deal expires. For FAU, hiring a coach on a 1 year deal after going through a month long search would be the worst decision ever. The goal is to bring in someone to build the program. One of the requirements mentioned repeatedly by Angelos is for the coach to be here for a long time…hence the large buy out, etc.
