FAU alumni event announced for June in Austin, TX

This is the text of the e-mail that went out to all alumni that have a home address in the state of Texas. This is the official launch of the newest chapter of the FAU National Alumni Association. Thought y'all would like to see what's going on out here in Texas in preparation for the game.

The actual e-mail had the logo of the NAA and had real bullet points and the hyperlinks were not as ugly as they are here. I don't have the e-mail in my work inbox, so I just copied and pasted from a response FAU has already received.

Fellow Texas Alumni,
Florida Atlantic University has experienced the most exciting year in its history:

- The Owls football team won the 2007 SunBelt Conference Championship.
- With their victory at the 2007 R&L Carriers NewOrleans Bowl, the Owls became the youngest  start-up team to ever play in and win a bowl game.
- The Owls were the only college football team in Florida to win a bowl in 2007.
- FAU gained national recognition as the Boca Raton campus hosted a 2008 Republican Primary Presidential Debate.
- In March, FAU received a $ 1.5 million donation from a local business to help construct Innovation Village - a planned multi-use complex that will offer unique opportunities for living, learning, dining, shopping and building tradition. The centerpiece of the complex will be an open-air, 30,000-seat football stadium.

We want you to be part of this exciting time…

The FAU National Alumni Association is hosting a reception on June 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Scholz Garten in Austin, Texas, with the hope of launching the first FAU alumni chapter in Texas. Click http://fauf.fau.edu/NetCommunity/page.redir?&target=http%3a%2f%2fwww.sc holzgarten.net%2fdirections.htm&srcid=8816&srctid=1&erid=2946225
for directions to Scholz Garten. With over 1,700 alumni living in Texas, we are big enough, loud enough and enthusiastic enough to turn Texas into OWL COUNTRY! We hope you will join us for this great opportunity to network with other FAU alumni.

DON'T FORGET that on August 30, our FAU Owls football team will be opening their season in Austin against the University of Texas Longhorns. More information on the tailgate party and game tickets will be available at our mixer in June.

This is a game you won't want to miss! Join us for the reception at Scholz Garten and stay tuned for postcards and additional email reminders with more information.

To RSVP or if you would like to become involved with the growth of the FAU Lonestar Burrow, contact Lee Collier at [email protected] or (561) 297-1172.

Thanks and Go Owls!

That is a good number. It would be great to see even half that number show up for the Texas game. Best of luck. You are doing good things for FAU.

Re: FAU alumni event announced for June in Austin, TX

The hardest part about Texas (and Florida) is the size!! Austin is three hours from Houston and Dallas - where most of our alumni are. That is definitely drivable, but you have to think about someone with a family:

Friday drive for three hours (day off of work needed)
hotel stay
Saturday game and hotel room
Sunday drive home

It's a long and tiring weekend for someone that has two or three kids.

Leave the wife and kids at home and hit the game with some friends  ;D
