The mitochondrion one over by the biomed science building was something like $85 grand. Crazy. I'm sure it's so these artists can live for the year between potential opportunities for sculptures. Not so starving artist when your work is going for five figures…

I'm pretty sure public buildings are required to dedicate a portion of their budget to "art".

Funny, I was actually looking at that uh sculpture a few weeks ago between the science and engineering buildings and all i could think was man that thing is garbage.  My accounting class could have designed something more artistic than that thing.

My least favorite one is by the University Center (OK, Student Union) cafeteria. It used to be where the nursing building is. It just looks… odd.

Here is the state program responsible for it:

Campus Sculptures are expensive...

FAU's art is really ugly. Here's a few more that I really dislike (although the one by the SE building is the worst):

$35000

Finally, here's a list of all the pieces:

Yep, that one is god awful.

A lot of people thought this was just part of the architectural design. Nice seamless fit. The problem with this piece is that rain gets in the groove where a person might sit and then it collects dirt and mold and dead bugs.

One of FAU's best pieces of art used to be right near this one… I don't know the official name for it but it looked like a melting "O". It was removed when they constructed the Nursing building. It's a damn shame but I haven't seen that piece anywhere else on campus. They kept the cheap "spider" sculpture when they built GPT but we lost the melting O.

Everybody – even people in Athletics administration – were happy to see this go.

A lot of people don't even realize this is an art piece. They just think it's fancy windows.

A great piece. Some people don't notice that it's the Periodic Table of Elements.

Here are some pieces from other colleges that I like and wish we could get something similar:

<a href="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e1/Papua_New_Guinean_sculptures_at_Stanford..jpg">Hand-carved Papua New Guinean sculptures at Stanford representing different creation stories…</a>

and this one:

"Endover" at the University of Michigan, 15 feet wide by 15 feet tall. Two other things are cool about this… if you push it lightly, it will rotate on the one axis, secondly depending on the angle of the sun, this produces either a four-sided shadow or a six-sided shadow.
