26 reasons to watch SunBelt Football this year...
FAU Highlights:
A-Attendance. The SBC, with the possible exception of Troy, needs to increase numbers to show people that they are serious about football. It will be interesting to see how FAU fans respond after last season’s title and this season’s hype.
F-Florida Atlantic. If your gonna’ run with the big dogs you’ve gotta live up to the hype! FAU shocked the football world last season, and are now considered by many to be the favorites to win the SBC. Will the elevated expectations do them in?
I-Interceptions. With the exception of FAU’s Rusty Smith, no returning full time starter in the conference threw less than 10 pick last season-Yikes!
O-October 7th. Troy at Florida Atlantic in front of a national ESPN2 TV audience. This should be a good one! Our only complaint is that it is not later in the season (more intrigue).
P-Pastels. Yes, I’m referring to the wardrobe of Howard Schnellenberger. Hey, when you win you can get away with that!
Q-Quality Defensive Players. The SBC has improved ten fold over the past four seasons on defense. If you haven’t seen FAU’s Frantz Joseph, Troy’s Boris Lee, or ULM’s James Truxillo play you are doing yourself and your country a disservice!
V-Victories! Let’s just call it how it is; FAU ;D has developed much quicker as a program than FIU and the latter has become a detriment to the conference. Mario Cristobal needs to get more than one win from this team. The Golden Panthers have a tough schedule and may not be able to do it in 2008.
W-Wide-Outs. Perhaps the best crop of receivers that the SBC has showcased. UNT’s Casey Fitzgerald, UL’s Derrick Smith and FAU’s Cortez Gent highlight the bunch.
X-Xavier Stinson. Will get the bulk of FAU’s carries should Charles Pierre falter. Could give FAU another weapon in their already stocked arsenal.
Y-Young offensive lineman. Only 13 of the league’s 40 projected starting lineman (not including WKU) are seniors. The 3 most seasoned units are FAU, Troy and ASU.
Thanks to a link on the Troy board and the Sunbelt Board.

Florida Atlantic-Howard Schnellenberger Stock: Rising
Schnella’s Fella’s found themselves in a bowl game in only their 3rd year in d-1 football. Schnellenberger has put a face on the program, and been colorful in doing it. With a great reputation and a fertile recruiting base the Owls could run the SBC for many years to come, and the 74 year-old can stay as long as he wants

Awesome. Two things though.
- It doesn't sound like Stinson's going to get any gametime this season. Ted seems to think that Stinson will be redshirted, not just to bulk up and learn FAU's offensive scheme but also to make sure his injury is 100% recovered.
- Frantz Joseph is good. Speaking of good, LB recruit Alex Pattee has been at recent 7-on-7's and he is definitely talented. Didn't see too many plays since he'll likely be redshirted but he did swat down some passes.
