Another SBC Bowl Bid?

From Marcus Nelson's blog from the Palm Beach Post..

Tuesday, SBC Commissioner Wright Waters is scheduled to “make a special announcement regarding postseason play.” That’s likely to be tie-in with a another bowl that will ensure more than one Sun Belt team will go bowling each year. Waters has made that issue a priority for years.

Lots of speculation on other SBC boards.  Some say it is a contingency bid for with another bowl this year if another conference is unable to fill it's slots.  Others say it is a spot in the GMAC Bowl in Mobile which is open after this year.  Still others are saying it could be a new bowl in Memphis.

Hopefully it's a guaranteed spot in a Bowl game, even if we have to wait a year.  That would be a HUGE step forward for the conference.

Re: Another SBC Bowl Bid?

With the addition of WKU in 2009 there is no reason we shouldnt have 2 bowls.  GMAC Mobile would be appropriate.

Agreed.  The SBC has been worthy of an additional bowl for the past few years and now it looks like that is finally going to be a reality.  A contingency bid is nice, but this announcement better be an automatic bid for the SBC #2 team by 2009 at the latest.  Another automatic bid would be great because of the additional exposure.  Plus, it would give everyone else in the league something to look forward to every year since we all know the #1 spot is locked up for a while!  :D (I'm just kidding all of you visitors…sort of)
