Re: Game Thread: FAU vs ULM
Everyone should remember last year's thriller, the triple overtime "End-Zone Shuffle".
It appeared either team wanted to win, nobody could make a field goal to save their life. Some questionable calls during the OT session didn't help either.
I am interested to see how this team respond, not only on the recent struggles, but the way this particular game ended. It turned out that it didn't hurt them earning the conference title, but it did stop them from owning it out right, instead of sharing the title with Troy.
And the loss could have been a blessing in disguise, helping them re-focus for the remaining conference games.
This however is a new season and the Owls have struggled as a team.
Last week, they almost turned the corner, but when the mistakes started to happens, the domino effect took hold. Hopefully, another week will help to slow down the syndrome of self inflicted pains.
I would like for the players to remember last years game, in order for them to come out and play their most emotional and inspired game of the year.
We have yet to beat both Louisiana's in any given year & the Cajun's look like they will be the toughest ones of the two to beat, yet Monroe is one of those teams that have enough talent to wreck anyone's day. And they usually start slow & finish strong - hopefully the Warhawk's are still licking their wounds and the Owls can continue to inflict some punishment, on someone else this time other then themselves.
This game will be about containment of QB Landcaster & RB Goodin. Landcaster can hurt you with both his Arm & Legs, but will look to run first. Key to this game is STOP the RUN and make this team throw the ball. It will be a tall task for the owls defense, but if we can contain Landcaster, then we can limits the option, so the defense will have to play discipline & be patient and not over commit.
They do have two other backs that can hurt you, Lovett & Revell both good athletes and must be kept in check, all backs have good hands & can hurt hurt with the passing attacks and turn those quick out's into huge gainers.
Which Monroe team will show up today - it is a home game for them, so I expect them to play tough.
This will be a hard fought game & could be decided on anther late field goal as the final seconds tick away.
The Owls just have not played well enough to blow out anyone & have lack the focus to close out game when they have the chance to put games away.
I still see the Owls doing jut enough to win this one and keep the feel good feelings going another week.
Let's see how bad the Owls want this one.

What a terrible shame for Rizzo. Let's hope it is not as bad as we think.

Hopefully it's not serious, but it does sound like he's done for the season. :P
