Bummer. Had mucho success with AirTran.

Try flying into Flint. For a regional airport, it's virtually brand spanking new. Easy to get in and out of.

If you really think about it, if you're gonna stay in the burb along I-75, Flint may be the easier option.

Regardless, good luck with your success.

Dude, we were in New Orleans last year. Detroit isn't much worse unless you really plan on hanging out in the ghetto.

GO OWLS!!!

Re: Flight Information from Ft. Lauderdale to Detroit.

From Flint to downtown Detroit, 65 miles. Or in Michiganese, 45 or less minutes. I-75 is a lot like I-95. Traffic moves quick (except rush hour and snow, of course.)

Gasoline right now is $1.50 a gallon in most parts of Michigan.

I would say, downtown Detroit is safer than your bowl destination from last season. The areas around Ford Field, Greektown, Comerica Park and the MGM Grand Casino are rather secure. Not to say that the area is innocent either, but if you maintain awareness as if you would most American city at night, you'll be fine.

Downtown Detroit is safer than the FQ in NOLA, that's for sure. Downtown Royal Oak is also a nice area to socialize in. If you have a passport, check out Windsor. The strip joints in Windsor rival anything that's in SoFla.  And the drinking age in Ontario is 19, which may be a bonus for some of FAU's underclassmen.

And if you have to courage to try downhill skiing, Mt. Holly (north of Pontiac) has a pretty decent slope for an intermediate skier.

However, many residential areas in the D proper, think of Overtown.

Hope this helps.
